Just spent 13 days hunting Elk the rough country of the Gila Wilderness. While I did not tag out (no shortage of oppty tho) the Obsidian Merino pants were flawless. The weather ranged from raining all day to hot and dry. The pants dried quickly after hiking through crotch deep grass and were amazingly comfortable when the temps went up into the low 80's. The pockets are roomy and secure, the suspenders and the waist were super comfortable under my pack belt and the pants are dead quiet. They held up well with all the stickers and snags that you get in the Gila. Perfect early and mid season (with some wool long johns) bowhunting pants. I wont hesitate to get another pair.
My only feedback is knee padding would be a nice upgrade.
I wore them today for the first time hunting. Morning Dove opener, cooler temps, morning dew out. I have 5.11, Sitka, Kuiu, North Face and other outdoor brands, I like these a lot. I plan to wear them this weekend and next for our early goose, where we have a wide range of temps and weather. Pocket layout is great, pants are comfortable, suspenders are better than belts. I’ll most likely pick up a few more colors.
After swallowing the price (for me) I wasn't sure but after 5 days in the Brooks Range hunting caribou I'm a believer, wish I had 2 more pair. When not raining they perform well; durable, comfortable, breathable. When raining I put rain pants over the top and they still remained dry and comfortable....for 3 days. I got the medium-tall size and am 185lbs with a 33" waist and they fit great but were also were plenty long. When standing straight they would go to the bottom of your heel. With my Danner boots on it was no issue but with shorter hikers I would rather have the regular length. They didn't rip or snag and I put them through the test, trust me.
Purchased these pants before the 2020 hunting season and the fabric has already worn through the entire seat and inner legs of the pants to the point where you can see directly through them. It’s unfortunate that we pay top of the line dollars for pants that can’t even make it through a full hunting season. Absolutely would not recommend.
Maybe the most comfortable pants I have ever worn. Size is good, finish is good, quality is good. So good, have 2 sets. Summer scouting and early season layer, or nice for in the skinning shed with friends!
These are phenomenal pants. They are super comfortable, fit well and are made durable. I am in love with them. I’m in the military and I use them in the field and they hold up. Thanks for the great product.
I ordered a size large and it was almost perfect, just a little shorter in the leg than I like. No problem. I ordered a Large Tall and when they arrived the thighs were literally so tight that I couldn't comfortably wear a base layer underneath them. I have rather thin chicken legs so this was both surprising and very disappointing for the $ that they cost.
Love these pants and they fit perfectly. Not too tight and stretch perfectly
I don’t understand how a company making clothes for layering can make outer layer pants with such a small area for your junk. In the pictures it looks like the zipper is long and that from the waistline of the pants to the crotch seem there’s is plenty of room. This is not the case for me. This crotch area is far too short.. and I doubt the 2XL will have any more room downward for my danglies.
I’ve spent the last three days scouting in the obsidian merino pants and I absolutely love them. Taking them through West Texas scrub brush and everything else, there is no stopping them. I was worried that the 100° heat was going to be a little much but that wasn’t the case, they were comfortable and tough as heck. Im probably going to order several more in different colors.
