The quality of workmanship on these was fantastic. Really fantastic.
The cut was just 'way too baggy. They're cut for what I'd expect to be an overlayer, not as a standalone pant or something that fits under a puffy layer. I was hoping to wear these both for work as well as for hunting over only longjohns, but no-go. Returned them.
If that cut is tightened up (not skinny-jean tight, just more similar to the Kuiu Attacks), I'd buy them again in a heart-beat.
Bought a couple sets of these pants last year for Archery Elk here in Idaho, Out the gate they were great pants from early morning to late nights and miles down the trail. I was impressed with the comfortable fit and careful thought-out design. The only concern that I had was the durability. After a month of hiking Unit 66 in the Palisades area the pants were beat up to say the least, I'd punched holes through the material in multiple places, their only saving grace was the rip stop material that seemed to minimize the overall damage. After talking with Paul in their customer service department while in the process of ordering additional items I mentioned the durability issues I ran into and suggested maybe offering a patch kit with the pants, for 180 dollars a set didn't seem too unreasonable. After hearing of the concerns I had with the pants Paul offered to send me patch material for free.. I was impressed, a company that is more than willing to go the extra mile for their customers! Needless to say I will continue to support and proudly wear their products!
These pants have the potential to be the best, but they rip super easy. I have two pair (got one in solid for upland hunting and one in camo for archery) and have ripped both just doing regular hunting activities. Hopefully FirstLite can come up for a solution for this. If they do, i'll buy another pair. But until then, they are not that useful because I can't trust they wont rip even on easy hunts.
These are by far the best hunting pants I have ever worn! They are quiet as can be. I got them for Christmas. I have used them on my late season cow elk hunt out here in Utah and I can’t say enough about them. It was 2 degrees up on the mountain. I was only wearing a thin merino wool base layer and these Obsidian pants because I knew we’d be putting in some miles on foot. I stayed perfectly warm. My only critique is the color that it shows on the website. I ordered the conifer color and they are much darker than advertised; they are more an olive drab color. Other than that they are perfect and I’ll be ordering another pair as soon as I’m done writing this.
These pants are perfect for every season of hunting. I wanted to test them the entire season before I wrote a review. I primarily used them for tree stand hunting in Tennessee and southwest Virginia, where the weather changes from fall to winter in just a few hours. The pants are a little bit larger than I had expected, but was not a bad thing because I was able to pull them over top of my muck boots once I was situated in my stand. I am extremely impressed with the design of the pants. You can tell that a lot of thought was put into the pockets. The cargo pockets are excellent for putting smaller items, like a thumb release, and even a range finder. The small thigh zip pocket was also extremely useful. I am sure there is a reason for it, but I wish they had a back left pocket. The pants are extremely durable, but the suspender loops on the front of the pants ripped off fairly early in the season, which is the only reason I gave the pants a 4 out of 5 stars.
