I'm a first-timer to merino base layers. After reading about merino, I wanted the additional strength the 5% spandex adds, plus all the warmth, wicking, and comfort high-quality merino supposedly provides. The Kiln 1/4 zip top & bottoms noticeably outperform my UA pieces and any pieces I've ever worn hunting, fishing & skiing in PA. I am glad I found First Lite on an online "Best Base Layers" review. Totally worth the investment.
For the longest time I thought there was no way long johns for $100+ would really be that much different than your $20-$40 basic long johns. Boy was I wrong. These are worth every penny and exceed all expectations. Comfortable, warm, perfect amount of stretch. Merino wool is an incredible material and I’m officially hooked.
All of First Lite’s products are top of the line and well worth the price point they’re listed at.. Their Kiln line of merino wool is probably my favorite, it’s super comfortable and works great.. If you’re not wearing First Lite as your base layers then it’s time to grow up and get yourself some..
Long Johns are very comfortable and definitely kept me warm while fishing.
I even wore them as pajamas.
Awesome base layer! I’m using them for work and play. Super comfortable and warm if active in sun zero temps. Maybe a tad to baggy for fitting under work pants, but for all my other pursuits (hunting, fishing, skiing) they’re perfect! Like all my other first lite gear they’re very well made and comfortable. Can’t ask for more!
Most comfortable base layers I have ever worn.
I have both the kiln long john and hoody, they are by far the most comfortable articles of clothing I own.
Very nice long john. I own two pair. Would definitely recommend.
Will now be my go to set for sub freezing temps. I haven’t had these in the woods yet, but have worn a few times in single digit temps under ski pants or light pants, and they work great. Better than any other set I own.
I called customer service to get feedback on sizing, and ended up going with an XL. I have large thighs and wanted to make sure I had plenty of room in that area. I definitely should have gone with a large. The XLs fit ok, but a large would have been better. I'm 6'4" and these are a little long on me, and there's a bit of loose fabric around the thighs and legs. I would suggest to just follow the size chart and you should be ok.
