These are the best thermals I’ve ever owned/ worn the ease of zipping them off when the temps rise is a game changer. Mid October hunting in Idaho these things are a must
I used these EVERY day on a backcountry elk trip (12 days). I would sleep in them each night and start our morning hike up the mountain until i got too warm and then quick unzip throw em in my pack and keep trekking. even though the zipper went into my boot they were very comfortable and never noticed the zipper. They are warm, comfortable and will be one of my most frequently used item on any hunt. I would give them more stars if i could.
Excited to try these out this fall and winter. Should be perfect for early morning hunts. Should also be perfect for working outside and in warehouses this winter. I work in several different buildings on any given day, some heated and others not. Having long johns I can remove without taking off my work boots off will be a huge help. No more sweating in office buildings or freezing in warehouses. The fit for me was perfect and I don’t notice the zippers at all I just flip them up.
Seem to run a bit on the shorter side. Zipper hits right at my ankle bone. Will work fine for whitetail or hiking but no way I’m wearing these in waders. Pressure from the water in the boots will be very uncomfortable. Zipper should have been reversed putting flat tabs at the bottom.
Fit is perfect! Easy on Easy off! Super comfortable but breath well, I can’t wait for hunting season start to test further.
Whether I want to put on the new First Lite zip offs for a glassing session, or take them off to hike up a mountain, the full zip sides and velcro flaps make it easy and quick to make that change without the hassle of taking your boots and pants off. And the best part is you don't notice the zippers one bit. They fit seamlessly and comfortably under my pack belt. For colder weather, these are the only long underwear I take with me.
Great piece of kit. Material is very high quality. Looking forward to further testing.
I first used them for a three night camping/hiking trip to see if they really live up to the hype, and I gotta admit they definitely do. To be able to just briefly stop mid-hike and take them off in seconds, and then put them back on in seconds as the day cools off is something I can't recommend enough. I'm extremely excited to use these later this season while actually hunting, and will be ordering some more pairs for the season.
The only reason I gave this a four star rating is cause the left pant leg is noticeably longer, which makes it a bit awkward. Despite the extra length, they are still very comfortable, and very warm. I'm hoping it's just a one time fluke, because I'm definitely considering getting a few more pairs.
Ordered a L thinking the inseam would be closer to 34". On the tape, it's 32". The zipper feels too stiff / big on the inside of the leg the length is right at 32" but on the outside of the leg (due to the zipper being too stiff), its probably closer to a 30" (meaning the zipper actually results in the material pulling upwards. Granted, i'm 6'5" and typically wear a 32" x 36", but these fit more like a 30" inseam (I could get away with a 32" worn as a boot zip). I love First Lite overall and their service. Just feel like these need more work before they are ready for prime time. Going to return them and wait till next year in hopes they start offering a long and modify the design (and zipper).
The material is great, which is no surprise since it's FL wool. Warm, soft, feels like PJs. I thought my biggest worry on these would be how the zipper at the bottom (underneath a sock and boot) would feel, but I didn't even get to the part of trying them on with my boots.
I ordered a medium, same as my other pants from FL. I typically wear somewhere between a 32 and 34 waist, and the waistline on these seemed great. The length, however, was comically too long. I'm typically right on a 32 inseam, and these felt like they were more like 36s or Medium Talls. So much so that I can almost wear them as footie pajamas. In order to wear these I would have to roll the cuff several times or bunch them up comically on my calves or thighs. I had high hopes for them, but I'm going to be returning them and waiting until they get the length sorted on these.
