At first glance when I got this vest I was wondering what the heck did I buy. The design was very thought out and just right for my type of hunting, on the move. The front insulation is great when you slow down and sip it up but the then layer around the back really helps jute body breath. This came in real handy while hiking through the mountains chasing elk. The only issue I had was the chest pocket zipper broke on me mid season but not a deal breaker. I’d like to think once I contact them they will take case of it.
Perfect piece for those in-between days, I use this as a mid layer to add warmth without bulk on my arms as well as an outer layer when things start to cool off in the evenings. Easy to put on and off and adds warmth without much bulk. Its perfect when its to warm for a full layer but still a litte chilly with what you are wearing.
The construction of the vest is awsome. Warm where you want it, lightweight, breathable where you want it.
Will surely order the jacket version of it. Seems like a very versatile piece of gear.
I'm 5'10", 43" chest, broad shoulders and 32x32 waist. The vest feel a little loose when wearing over just a baselayer but will be perfect over a fleece or heavy middle layer.
Vest fits great, provides that extra needed warmth in late season. Looking forward to just wearing it with a base layer in early season. Going to use it for multiple applications! Absolutely love the products!
I use this vest in combination with a 250 weight merino base layer and light weight insulated outer jacket for cross country and alpine touring skiing. So far works great down to zero degrees Fahrenheit. Very warm for thickness of vest!!! The merino back panel works excellent for moisture management. Fit is near perfect, slightly large for an XL. Highly recommend it!
I purchased this vest to wear over one or two base layers of various weights and under various jackets, depending on the temperature. Have used it over a fuse top and under a wool button up shirt and a soft shell jacket on a 45 degree day during archery season. I also have over worn it over the Fuse and Furnace tops and under a 4 in 1 Gore-tex parka on a 20 degree morning, It provides that little extra warmth to your torso that allows me to wear lighter jackets and parkas.
I used this mainly for a 3rd season deer hunt in Colorado. It is super light weight however when added with my layering it really helped keep me warm. Would recommend.
Sitka didn’t offer a solid colored vest so I went to the dark side and bought this from FL. I love it. Wore it all season—Sep thru Nov. It looks great in the green color so I’ll be wearing it on date night with the wife too. I love this thing so much I’m considering getting the jacket too.
I will assume everybody knows this is a great vest; so... we got to start reviewing stuff like the honeys do. I am 5'8" and 180-185, athletic with a 42" chest per measurement. I wear 16.5"x33" in "dress" shirts. If you are anywhere close to my size you will need a medium size sawtooth vest for it to fit right. I started with a large and it was waaaay too big.
Or, you could just call FL & they'll tell you what size you need. It is not scary to talk to a live person contrary to what you may believe.
This thing has perfect insulating panel placement on the front & the thinner flexible back of the vest is incredible in the field. Truly I felt warm & cool at the same time wearing this vest with a pack on.
great layering piece when the temps drop -- I use this a lot with just aero wool baselayer when hiking in the mountains when it's cold but I'm moving a lot -- it enables me to dump heat through my armpits and arms without restricting movement or overheating **however, the zipper does have to be fully seated or else it will come part after zipped, it really just takes an extra 2 seconds to focus when zipping up but I often forget to take that extra moment
