Perfect layer. Looking forward to putting it through some good work in a couple of weeks in Colorado. Up and down some 14’ers so it will be a good test.
I'm 5'10, 205# w an athletic/muscular build. The Medium fits me well (not tight but not baggy either) and I can comfortably wear a hoody and or light jacket underneath.
I really like this vest. It makes a good early season (cool but not cold temps) addition to a clothing system. Many of my FL layers are built w/ venting on the back which is great for carrying a pack, but once you drop the pack the vest comes in real handy for that lil extra bit of warmth while sitting and spotting etc.
Out of the box the first thing you notice is the material. It's going to be great for tree stand bow hunting with how quiet it is. This is the first part of the catalyst system I've purchased so maybe I'm not up to speed but it seem a little thinner than I was expecting. Not necessarily a bad thing because I'm thinking I'll be able to wear it in slightly warmer weather but I'm also hoping it will also keep me moderately warm in cooler temps as advertised. Time will tell. Honestly the vest is a little boxy. Kind of reminds me of my Carhartt vest. I wear a small in everything first lite and I think if they had an extra small I would consider trying it out. The extra room isn't bad, per say, it allows me to layer a bit underneath if I want. I can get a kiln, furnace, and Klamath top on under the vest before it fills out fully. Overall I'm pleased and I think everyone needs this vest!
I am a big fan of the material used in the Catalyst line. Really excited to run the vest this season. I am standard XL in most tops, this vest does run large for me. I exchanged my XL for a L which is just slightly snug but since it's a layering piece, it should be perfect.
This vest is built to take abuse, keep your core warm, and look darn good while doing it. I just ordered a replacement for one from a few years back. The pockets are where they need to be, the collar zips all the way up and has a nice soft lining. My only setback is mine seemed a bit large for what I think a vest needs to be. Most of the rest of my order was just fine in XL, but I had to send my vest back to get it in large- I just wanted a bit snugger fit.
This Is a well made purpose built vest. The cut is athletic but not super fitted. I am 6 feet, 195 lbs with a 35 waist, 42 chest, and fit. I went medium as I typically wear a somewhat fitted vest as I like to keep a second layer snug. The medium seems slightly roomy. The back of the vest is slightly longer (again purpose built for the field or the woods for coverage ) but nothing to be concerned about. It works well by the BBQ drinking beer...
just got the catalyst vest in the mail, first thing I noticed is material is dead quiet,no sound when you rub the product together. The fit seems great, i like the high collar- I can even tuck my chin inside for those cold mornings. Material seems like it would shed light and water easy, the inside of the pockets has a mesh liner- you can actually see everything inside the pockets if you look on the inside of the vest, i assume this is for breathability. The vest actually was a little heavier than I was expecting, i still would not classify it as a midweight/mid season vest. Overall, this seems like a great lightweight vest, the quality and construction stand out immediately as top notch. I can see this being great for early and mid season, I am very happy with my purchase!
I don't normally wear a vest but recently decided to give the Catalyst Vest a try. I found it very comfortable to wear during spring turkey hunts and all around activities outside when it was just cold enough that a sweatshirt wouldn't cut it. The fit and feel of this vest is perfect for wearing as an outer piece, soft and quiet yet durable enough to push through brush. I'm a big fan. Great work FL!
The Catalyst Vest doesn't disappoint. Was able to use the vest on my Idaho Spring Bear hunt and not only did the vest keep me warm but dry as well. This was the perfect layer as early in the morning during the rain and snow storms, and even later into the afternoon as temps warmed up. The performance of the catalyst vest is superior to others on the market with fit and feel. I especially like the higher collar and flexibility of the vest. Perfect for any back country hunt. Highly recommend!
With the milder winters we’ve been experiencing, I ordered this for deer season. I didn’t expect to break it out yet - but a cool morning in the dove field and three days fishing a tailwater made me glad I’d thrown it in the bag. It’s perfect for knocking off a slight chill. And classy enough that I’ll be able to wear it around town and even to church without getting side eyes for it.
