I love the kiln hoody! I use this hoody for everything! I have owned it for about 2 years. I have used this hoody for AK moose hunting, Chasing Sitka Blacktail Deer, wildland fire fighting (under Nomex), skiing, hiking and just going about town. This hoody and the aero wool neck gaiter has saved my sanity many times with Alaska bugs. It is very easy to control your temp while going from active to sedimentary in the Kiln. I hate to say it but if I misplace my Kiln hoody I ask myself is it worth going out?
title says it all; great fit and great comfort. warm enough for a baselayer or a standalone garment for most spring turkey season applications.
I have never had merino base layers before and decided to give the kiln hoodie and boot top bottoms a try. I bought them primarily for hunting but decided to use them on a recent snowboarding trip. They were fantastic. I decided to test them against my mid weight under armour base layers and I can honestly say there was no comparison. I always find it hard to layer for exersion while boarding and then sitting on the chair back up. In the under armours I always seemed to build up a sweat (even though it was -20 celcius out) and then have a chill all the way up the chair lift. This never happened with the kilns. I was comfortable and dry regardless of what I was doing. I cannot wait to use this deer and turkey hunting in Ontario and Manitoba in the up coming seasons. Very impressed.
I purchased two of these hoodies for a late season deer hunt in eastern Oregon. Although, the weather is usually cool early season, freezing temps and snow prevailed over the entire week of the season. This hoodie was more than I ever expected. To start off, it’s light - I barely knew it was there even with the hood over my head all day (the cut of the hood is perfect and fits around the head snugly). It’s warm - in freezing wind, snow, rain and everything else I saw that trip, I never felt the need to add layers. It also breathes well and stayed dry. It’s comfortable. As I said earlier, It never bunches up or felt cumbersome to wear - the material is top notch. I never took it off the whole week (I even slept in it). It didn’t stink or stretch out (I bought two thinking I’d need to switch out midway through the hunt). I even find myself looking at it in my closet, looking for a reason to throw it on back home. Love First Lite and will be investing in more of their quality, thoughtfully crafted product.
