I love these pants. They are comfortable, warm, and quiet. They have a bit of stretch, and I've had no difficulty scrambling over deadfall/rocks. There are pockets in the right places.
I was a bit worried ordering them without trying on first because I have really muscular legs and other pants have been way too slim, but these are made for athletic women - the fit is great for me. I have room to layer with merinos if it's extra cold.
Of note, they are a bit tighter and shorter than the Alturas Guide pant - I have large in both, and both fit, but the Guides are definitely baggier and longer. My partner has the men's version, and had to size up compared to the Stormtight. If you are in between sizes, probably good to go up in these.
Also, not sure why the men's version comes with free suspenders, and the women's don't but cost the same amount??
First pair of pants and brambler gators from First Lite and was very excited to try them out for my hunt this year. Hunting elk up in the mountains of Idaho (actually not that far from Ketchum funny enough) and the wind blew 15-20 MPH with higher gusts the entire time and it was about 20-35 degrees in the mornings and I stayed warm, wind free, and quiet! I usually get cold very easily, and not once did I feel a chill crawl up even when glassing and sitting down for long periods (which is usually my freezing point). I did wear thermals underneath, but who wouldn't. My ONLY complaint was the length being to short, but from other reviews, I had already anticipated that, so I bought the brambler gators to go over the bottom of the pant and it worked beautifully, and I looked wonderful too :) I am 5'9 and weigh 125 and the small was still a bit large in the waist and leg (I am thin with athletic frame and tiny booty) , but with the thermals on it was perfect. I will purchase XS in future, but they were sold out at the time. I will be purchasing the matching jacket.
I ordered these pants( and the jacket) for my Idaho elk hunt this year. Love them! They are well made, warm, and quiet. Love the flat waistband (no elastic, yay!) The cargo pockets are perfect for carrying phone, extra gloves, etc. and I like the additional zipper pocket on top of each cargo pocket for small stuff that I don't need to get to as often. The "slash" hip pockets have zippers on them and I was a little worried they would cause a problem when my pack is on, but they did not get in the way. I like the longer length of these pants as well. (They are longer than my original First Lite Guide pants, which I had to let the bottom hem out) Thanks, First Lite, for making women's camo!
Ok first off the pants are amazing, they truly deserve 5 starts, BUT. The zipper is "left handed" so basically backwards compared to the rest of my First Lite pants! Its more awkward than you would think.. Otherwise the pant is great.
This pants are everything I could ask for. I am 5 foot 1 / 140 lbs "curvy" and have 32 inch inseam and I have the medium so I can layer under them. They have stretch all over but even more in places you really need if you are hoping over deal fall, ect. the cargo pockets are the best, having some zipper and stretch details. True to size. Very durable.
I was able to use my first lite gear for the first time today and can say I have no regrets with my purchases. While grouse hunting in Michigan today, the weather had temps in mid-upper 20’s, light wind, and it was going back and forth from sunshine to snowing. Typical Michigan. These pants were excellent and helped keep me warm during our hunt! I wore them over top of a jean type pant and they still had plenty of room for movement and I didn’t feel restricted in any area. I was a little concerned with how the pants were going to look after walking thru so much briar but when I looked them over at home I didn’t see a single snag on the material. I would definitely suggest these as a pant to wear while keeping active in cooler temps. Might not be the best choice for outdoor activities when your temps and movements are both low.
I bought the catalyst soft shell jacket and pant set for this year’s hunting season. My hope was that I would be able to regulate my body temperature to avoid a Raynaud's attack. For those of you that don’t know what Raynaud Syndrome is... it’s a condition that constricts small arteries in your body in response to cold. In turn, limiting blood supply to the affected area (fingers and toes). In short, I have to stay warm to keep blood flowing to my fingers and toes. I mostly spot and stalk hunt so this set up did great when hiking around in 20+ degree weather (PNW). I paired it with the Kiln top and bottom base layers. Now, when temps moved up to the 30s, I had to dress down to just my kiln top. I did make an attempt to sit in the catalyst set however, after about an hour I needed to move again (now that can be because I wasn’t wearing the best boots either... lesson learned).
I typically wear a medium however after speaking to a First Lite rep I chose to go with a large (med base layer tho) with the intention of laying more than the average person. I love that the jacket and pants are super quite when chasing elk through downed trees and a maze of branches in the dense woods.
The catalyst set did just as I expected and as it was described it would do. First Lite did a great job on an awesome hunting set for women.
Before purchasing these pants, I had never owned a pair of First Lite pants. Happy to report that these actually fit perfectly and are extremely comfortable. The fabric makes them very easy to hike in and it's very quiet for stalking. They are great for mid-season or layered for colder weather. I have worn these during elk season and a few mornings of duck season so far. I ordered my normal size, based on the size chart and these are great. Normally, pants that fit my waist are tight in the hip and thigh, but these are not. They have a more curvy fit so there is no tightness anywhere. I would like for the ankle to be a bit wider to fit further over my boots, but these are sufficient and the slimmer design makes them good for walking and not getting caught in brush.
Wore these with a thin base layer and never got cold. Weather conditions were windy and negative temperatures. The only thing to improve would be the backwards crotch zipper.
I wrote a review directly to First Lite in an email. No response. Anyway, I do like the pants but, like another commenter said...what the heck is up with the lefthanded zipper and button. Not cool...ditch it seriously! The other thing is color. I want a solid color like black or conifer in addition to the camo options. It's a no brainer!!! I don't like to wear camo unless I need to. I don't need to wear camo in lion season and don't want to. I want a solid color to wear then. I'm ordering the Sitka timberline pant in grey. Especially since I asked for a solid color 6 months ago. It should be offered this season.
