Great for tree stand or glassing 12/4/2018

I tend to walk a lot while hunting, traditional bibs or heavy pants restrict mobility and cause sweating. These pants paired with a nice durable walking pant make a fantastic combo. The zipper to waist feature and silent zippers make tossing these on quick and quiet. It’s remarkable how tight they pack up and how little they weigh, literally like a feather. I was hunting whitetail in northern Ontario a week ago and found these kept me adequately warm in -15 temps (Celsius) with moderate minds. I wasn’t toasty but I wasn’t cold or shivering whatsoever. If your looking for a multi purpose pant these are not what your looking for, if you want something light that will easily fit in your pack and keep you warm when it’s time to sit, these are AWESOME. Also, one minor negative, no belt loops..... maybe for the next generation.

How it fits
I wear a large and found they fit great over a base layer and walking pant.

Amazing product, but give me some belt loops 12/3/2018

These are pretty warm for how light weight they are, repel water extremely well.

How it fits
Be warned try and get the exact fit you need, as there is hardly any adjustment for waist. There are some velcro straps to adjust the waist, but i found it is barely enough to get the exact length you need. I tried a medium and a large, medium was just not the right length/width ratio and the large i can't sinch down the velcro enough to keep them up. Not sure why they couldn't have sewn a few belt loops on or even a suspender loop. Now i have to wear a loose belt that i tighten down best i can around my waist to keep them up.

These pants haven’t left my pack 11/23/2018

I bought these for western back pack hunting but I’ve found that They are perfect for my style of whitetail hunting. They allow me to wear a light outer layer pant on the outside on my long walk in and when I start to get cold I can pull these out of my pack and warm up. The full side zips are so handy. I can quietly put these on with little effort. They have been great this fall for all day sits and below zero wind chill. Just like my puffy coat, these pants have replaced my bulky fleece pants. Excellent product!!!!

Must have 11/19/2018

Puffy jacket is one of my favorite pieces so the pants were a no brainer. Used on a few later hunts this year that we was extremely mobile and then would be stationary and glassing. The ease of putting on and removing was awesome and just like the jacket the warmth to weight was amazing.

Excellent 11/18/2018

With northern Alberta being as cold as a whores heart, these pants are key to experiencing a semblance of comfort when utilizing them as a midlayer. If you're hunting cold climates, I strongly suggest you pick a pair of these up.

Amazing Warmth 11/9/2018

I've used these pants in a blind whitetail hunting about 6 times now when temps got into 30s. These pants are so thin and light you would think they were made of magic to keep you warm. I pack these in to my blind in my man bag and they take up little room. I added the cirrus jacket to my wardrobe to combine with these pants. I would be leery busting brush with these. They would mist likely snag easily. If however, you were to be glassing or sitting for a while then you are golden.

How it fits
I found they run small. I wear mediums in the obsidian pant, but had to size up to a large to fit over base layers.

Backcountry Gold 11/1/2018

I bought these for Colorado rifle season and they are unreal. A cold front moved in just before our hunt and temps barely got out of the 30's during the day and a couple of mornings were pushing single digits. I hate wearing long johns because at some point during the day I'm going to get hot no matter how cold it is. These are way easier to get on and off and provide at least as much warmth. The full length zippers make these a snap to get on and off without taking off your boots. They are also light and packable. I was able to sit and glass without getting chilled for hours waiting for the sun to come up. I used to think my legs didn't get cold, but I was certainly wrong. These also seem to warm up your entire body and give a really cozy feeling. At camp, I would take off my regular pants and put these on for dinner and then wear them to bed. They certainly adda bit of warmth to my sleeping system. These will definitely be in my pack for backcountry and day hunts alike if the weather is even remotely cold.

How it fits
They are definitely cut to wear over your regular pants which is nice. I usually wear a 34/32 pant and the medium fits perfectly. They also have velcro tabs on the side which allow for a little bit of adjustment.

The warm pants you are looking for 10/30/2018

These pants are what I used while mid season ( and will use for late) elk hunting on those cold mornings and evening sit and wait sessions. Super crucial piece and I will keep them in my bag for late season CO deer for sure! I also was in light rain and snow with them and the DWR was perfect.
The zippers are awesome for putting them on over your obsidians and base layers in a hurry, the only reason I say they're a "bit small" is because when walking with them over obsidians+kiln they were a little more snug than I would like, HOWEVER they were the right length and waist was good etc.
I think it's just a matter of wearing too much underneath and I was too lazy to pull them off when it came time to move.

How it fits
Slightly snug if you are like me and are too lazy to pull them off after a glassing session and try to walk in them with too many layers beneath!

Warm, luxurious! 9/20/2018

Warm, luxurious pants to wear around camp or on the tree-stand. Appreciate the reinforcement areas and full zip easy on/off. Warm enough to wear over pants or baselayers.

Would appreciate suspender loops on these, especially without tall sizes available.

How it fits
Legs in the L fit well, though the waist, especially with elastic, was too large. Maybe suspenders would help, or tall sizes.

What I needed for my Spring and Fall hunts 9/12/2018

Pants are light weight and very warm...Enough insulation to protect from late August winds at 7000 ft hunting for sheep. Warm enough to sleep on top of my sleeping bag at 40-50 degrees and perfect for camp.

How it fits
Although it performs well, fit isn’t quite there. I wear medium, with my actual size being 31x30, they were a bit too large and would slide and shift off my waiste. Even when I had them over my pants and base layer. The Velcro was a nice touch but doesn’t work well. It was also very large at the rear where it looked like I was wearing a diaper. It needs belt loops. And should fit better overall.

Great Multi-Purpose Piece! 9/9/2018

I bought these instead of sanctuary bibs for a more packable form of treestand insulation. They’re actually surprisingly quiet and super warm for the weight. They pair nicely with my Woodbury jacket and cover a huge range of conditions. I keep them in my pack as soon as temps drop and they’re easy to put on over your boots if you catch a chill on stand. I’m hoping they add these to the women’s line soon so my wife stops “borrowing” mine.

How it fits
A little looser than normal FL pants, but fine for layering over other pants.

Great Added Warmth 8/30/2018

Bought these before heading out on a backcountry mule deer hunt in Idaho. Coming from Florida, I tend to get cold pretty easily, so I wanted to make sure I could stay warm while sitting and glassing all day. These pants did the trick, even with temps being in the low 20s and teens. The full length zippers and detachment points at the waist make them super easy to get on and off over your boots and pants, which was great for layering up after a hike up to a glassing knob. I like how the butt has a tougher material so I never felt like I was going to rip them while sitting on rocks.

These provide great warmth for not much extra weight while hunting out of a backpack.

How it fits
They fit big enough to layer plenty underneath (which I do), but not so big that they are baggy.

Amazing pants, love that I can leave the baselayer at home, and not have to stop mid morning to take off baselayer pants. Just unzip these when done glassing and go.

Almost Phenomenal Pant 8/29/2018

I do a lot of archery hunting. However a lot of my trips consist of long walks to the stands. I purchased these pants so I have something that’s extremely packable and light weight, yet warm for those cold hunts. These pants are awesome for those needs. After I’m in the stand and the cold begins to set in, I pull these things on and it’s like climbing into a sleeping bag. They’re super warm. Paired with the sanctuary jacket, it’s a failsafe combo. The only improvement I’d like to see, is the same pant, with the sanctuary outer fabric so they’re silent. These are good for the legs because there’s not much movement, but silent fabric would be a welcome improvement.

Great asset for cold sits 8/29/2018

I bought these pants for primarily eastern style treestand hunting, with the occasional western back country spot and stalk. Fits great over your existing layers and provides a great warmth to weight ratio. Under no means should you ever bushwhack with these on, as the material is not designed for heavy use; thus you’ll need to remove them before trying another glassing knob. I recommend having a padded seat with you versus sitting on rocks and/or sticks that could potentially poke a hole or tear them. I also think removing the elastic band that does little to keep the pants up and replace it with a shock cord draw string would be an improvement. Great pants, but know their limitations.

Wouldn’t of thought I’d use them 8/29/2018

I couldn’t think of a legitimate reason that I really needed these insulated pants. The advertising led me to believe that their main use would be for being halfway up a mountain, glassing, get chilled and need a quick warming layer to pull on to keep warm. I chose to try them for more of an insulating “under” garment...until I got them. I quickly discovered how packable they were and how small they compress. I can put them in the pack and pull them on in he tree, the duck boat headed to the blind, or while leaning on the truck waiting on a friend to return to the truck. I only gave them 4 stars because I wanted belt loops. I’m a bit picky.

How it fits

Pleasantly surprised 7/28/2018

I was a little skeptical of these at first but decided to bite the bullet before a 2 week long DIY backcountry hunt in NZ. Boy did these pants surprise me! Ultra warm and comfortable and they don’t take up much room in the pack at all. Great when the wind picked up on the mountaintops while glassing, definitely allowed me to be WAY more comfortable in the elements. I wore them around camp most evenings as well. Glad I purchased these!

Agree w/ bubble butt 7/14/2018

Haven't actually tested the pants yet out in the field, but for those looking at size I would go consider going a size down. The way the waist band is constructed it has the stretch material on the backside of the pant. I got a size M (size 31" waist) and they are borderline too big, even when adjusting the velcro side straps. As it stands, the stretchy section at the waist makes for a weird bubble butt look. Going to see if size Small will help fix the problem.

In seeing some of the other reviews, agree that the pants could also use: 1) belt loops, 2) reinforced knees, butt section.

Awesome pants for when the temp drops on spot and stalk/treestand hunts! 7/9/2018

I've used these pants in late and early seasons chasing bears and moose up in Alaska. when the temps drop I throw these things on when I'm glassing or in the stand and I cannot believe how warm they keep me. Extremely packable so I never have to sacrifice space in my gear bag for them. I wouldn't recommend them for beating brush chasing game, but if your on a mountain side or up in a stand, these are my go to for packable warmth.

How it fits
awesome fit. If I could add one thing, it would be having the bottom of the pant legs either stretchy or be able to cinch down to accommodate more variety of boots. gets fairly tight around my winter boots for late season hunts.

FANTASTIC outer layer AND base layer 2/23/2018

I purchased these to use as an outter layer for my first hunt out west, and also to use as a base layer for whitetail hunting. I'm not a big fan of bibs, so these really helped keep me warm on some cold sits in the stand. I normally wear XL pants, but purchased this in L. There is enough room to slide over my Obsideans for out west, and also enough room to wear under my Obsideans for tree stand hunting whitetails. The reason for wearing under my Obsideans is to help keep the noise down, as they to make some "swooshing" sound when moving. it's a fantastic piece I would suggest to all.

Perfect companion to the jacket 2/7/2018

I have 2 of the Uncompahgre jackets and they are my favorite jacket of all time. Naturally I had to buy the pants when they came out. These are great. Full length leg zippers so on and off are easy. I walk to my deer stand with these in my pack, then put them on when I get where I'm going. Pretty quiet for being synthetic, and super light.

Warm, but 1/18/2018

Unbelievably warm, I sat in the stand with just these pants and was warm at 30 degrees. Also work great for wading pants. The downside is the outer material is paper thin. I’ve had the uncompahgre jacket for 2 years and have taken it every wear and haven’t put a single hole in it. Already have 2 tears in the pants from minimum use. If you get these wear something over them. If the pants had the same outer material as the Kanab it would be the perfect pant

Nickname: Jason
Great pants one major flaw 1/4/2018

The uncompahgre are very warm and fill a great niche in my pack. After getting soaked during a creek crossing I put these on after I got back to camp and actually had light steam rising off them as they began to dry my soaked pants using my own body heat.
However there is one massive glaring flaw that greatly limits the versatility and usability of this piece of gear... there is no waist adjustment, nor are there any belt loops. Unless you get exactly the correct size, and don’t need something inbetween, you will have a hard time keeping them up. Granted these pants were intended for stationary or camp use, but I would at least like to be able to gather fire wood or move to another nearby vantage point without having the pants work their way down me arse.
That being said, i will be keeping these pants in my kit, but I will be sewing on some belt loops or suspender tabs before next season

Spent a week in the Puffy pants 12/11/2017

Just returned from a week chasing mule deer with customers in West Texas and spent a lot of time in these pants. We use open air buggies to move around the ranch and find deer. Actually had some snow this past week and temps got as low as 16. Pants were perfect and the easy on/off made it easy to remove if temps increased or we had to hike. My biggest concern was the durability. I wore rain pants as an outer shell 90% of the time which I think is a big help. I found I could wear Glenbrook 3/4 bottoms, Prana zion pants, puffy pants with a light rain pant for the outer shell in temperatures down to 16. Time will tell on durability of the outer fabric but I was very happy with my first week in these pants.

Awesome! 12/9/2017

I used these here in a tree stand in Michigan inlate November as I got them on a Black Friday sale with no baselayer and they killed it! I like to see what they can do on their own before going on a big trip and I can tell you for most hunts these will be going with me!

Great for certain uses 12/8/2017

These pants are light, packable and very warm. They are great if you are posting up at dawn or dusk. Do not plan to move around too much in them though as the fabric is not at all tear resistant. I just got these pants this year. During elk season in Colorado I was coming off the mountain after dark on a cold day after sitting at dusk and decided to leave them on. One little stub of a twig on a deadfall I was stepping over was enough to create a massive tear in the outer fabric exposing the insulation. Thankfully I was able to patch it with fabric repair tape after I got off the mountain. Now I know they are for sitting, not for walking or moving about. I recommend them but be careful.

When Temps Drop 12/6/2017

Great pants, lightweight and very, very warm. Pair these with the North Branch Soft Shell Pant, and you have yourself a pair of pants to handle anything the Northeast climate can throw at you. Use these while in the tree stand over the Kantab, or still hunting late season under the North Branch.

Just what I needed 11/18/2017

These pants completed my gear list. With the type of hunting I do, I need to be versatile. I could be sitting in a tree stand one minute (whitetail hunting), and the next see a mule deer in the distance and go on a stalk. I wore these pants while at camp and then on a cold morning stalk. They performed awesome. I walked around 2 miles on the stalk and it was the last 1/4 mile when I noticed the pants becoming a little too warm for my situation. Made it back to the truck and they came right off. I highly recommend these!!!

Most excellent 11/10/2017

Wouldn't go on a Washington High Buck Hunt or Modern Elk hunt without them. Add the Grizzly Mitt a Puffy Jacket and some toe warmers and you will last on your glassing tit longer than the rest of your crew. While my buds were walking and chillin near the fire at base camp. I was glassing hard on the last day of the season. I found my spike elk in my unit because I was warm while glassing not walking, not near the fire.

I beat feet back to camp grabbed the fella near the fire and we put a text book stalk on the herd to 150 yards. We left a map for the fella walking who went back to camp to warm up. Long story short.... Meat in the freezer. Excellent pant for glassing, sleeping, and camp. 6 stars.

Game Changers! 11/5/2017

These pants are game changers for how I hunt in the East for whitetails. Small and light enough to pack in for a 3 mile hike onto public and warm enough to allow me to sit on top the mountain for hours without getting cold. The first time I put these on in the field over my Kanabs, I immediately noticed how much warmer they made my legs. The fit is true. These are awesome. Keep up the good work First Lite!

The perfect middle piece. 10/29/2017

This is the perfect middle piece to seal the deal on those cool mornings or late evenings in the stand when the temperature is too cold for just Kanabs or Obsidians but not cold enough for the Sanctuary. I wear these as outer wear when it's windy and/or chilly. I was reluctant at first because I was afraid they may "swish" in the stand. NOT at all. You literally have to rub your legs to make them make noise. I am overly impressed with these for what I intended them to be. Easy on and off in the stand so your not tripping or stumbling out of your stand. They pack up to a little ball and can be carried in and out daily in the backpack or fanny pack. My only complaint (which is not an issue) is they did not make these in ASAT. I got mine in Cypher and I am extremely pleased with the camo pattern in stand.

Comfortable, lightweight, warm pants but no pockets 10/27/2017

I’m writing this review from a 39 degree treestand on my Ohio farm. I’m wearing the Uncompahgre pants over a pair of Corrugate Guide pants and a Merino base layer. Stayed super comfortable for the last 4 hours. Completely blocks the wind. The full zipper sides make these easy to get into & out of. You don’t want to go busting brush with these but their light weight, small pack up size & side zippers make them easy to carry & put on at your stationary destinations. I deducted a star for the lack of pockets. I know the side zip design causes problems for pockets but a few specialty pockets on either side would be appreciated. I’m 6’1” & 210 pounds and the Large fits me great over my other Large FL bottoms.

Weird Sizing 10/7/2017

I recently purchased these pants and I guess I'll keep them. Haven't worn them in the field but they seem warm and should be good for cold glassing sessions. What I'm not excited about is the fit. They seem to have a relatively tight cut, which seems weird for a pant that is designed to fit over other layers. They have the taped leg that First Lite used in there other products but I would prefer a bit more space to fit over other pants and gaiters. I don't personally see the need for a tapered leg in something that won't general be hiked in. Also, the cut of this pant is exactly opposite of the corresponding uncompaghre jacket. I'm struggling to find First Lite products at this point that fit well.

Easy on and off 9/29/2017

These pants were used primarily in a treestand. With the full zip sides it is very quick quiet and easy to put them on and take them off as temperatures required. They were worn over the curragate guide pant and kept me warm sitting for long periods of time at 28*f. I also used the Uncompahgre jacket. They both are light weight and pack down small for transport.

These are essential for when you get a chill in the backcountry. I wear these sleeping or glassing. Wouldn't go without them.

Great compliment to the jacket - needs suspender loops 6/27/2017

Admittedly, I have not worn these in the field. They are great quality consistent with my other first lite gear. I do think they would benefit from standard suspender connections similar to those provided on the Kanab and guide pants
