Tundra Cold Weather Balaclava
DWR Softshell with Merino

Staying longer in the field often necessitates staying warm no matter how low the mercury drops. For those of us who hunt in the extreme cold--whether it's active big game hunting, long days in the stand or waiting out the morning on a sub zero waterfowl hunt, the Tundra Cold Weather Balaclava is the answer. Featuring a combination of softshell construction to keep you dry, Merino face mask so that you can call and breathe, as well as an ultra-warm synthetic shearling liner, this is next-level protection in winter's worst weather.

Very warm

Since I wear glasses I can never wear a balcalva without my glasses fogging up. The material is more like a mesh around the nose on this one it doesn't fog up enough and is easy to wear pulled down around my nose. Wore is down to -10 in the late season this year and kept my ears and head warm.

Nice, but....

I really enjoyed this Balaklava in the cold weather of upper Peninsula Michigan. However the one downfall is the piece that goes over the face sometimes gets stretched out and will not stay up. The good thing is so far after I wash it it will return to its shape.

Awesome Balaclava

This balaclava was amazing while glassing here in Cascade, MT where it's always windy! Keeps your face warm and cuts the wind better than other balaclavas I've owned. Love that it's not thick in the mouth area so you can still breath fine. Best balaclava I own.

Extremely Impressed

I had the chance to put this item to use for three straight days during a Wisconsin early November bow hunt and it lived up to every claim FL has made. I always try to make an honest review when I write up a piece of gear because other folks need their gear to perform exactly as they expect it to. So for that reason even if the gear is overall excellent but has a feature or two that isn't ideal I try to make a point to address it. I can't find one with this balaclava. The visibility is perfect, the comfort is perfect (the inside lining is amazing) and most importantly it keeps you warm outside in the cold. I was midwest tree stand hunting, which of course means hours at a time sitting/standing still. The temperatures I sat in were 24-34 all day and while I did get a little cold because I didn't layer my lower body well enough, my head and face never felt a thing. What I especially noticed was that even in a constant cold breeze where my hands and any exposed skin quickly got cold, this piece blocked it completely. I have no trouble believing this balaclava will perform as well down into the teens and even single digits. Great job, FL.

Extreme comfort in extreme cold

I have taken this out in -15°C... and almost found it too warm. My face was sweating. It's that effective. I'm glad I have this as I'll be using it on my arctic hunts in the years to come! I would definitely feel comfortable hunting in -30°C with this balaclava on.

Really wonderful

Went tent camping and hunting on Veteran's Day weekend with this balaclava. First morning was very cold, but this did a great job of keeping me warm and comfortable in the stand. Got my first deer wearing it!

Awesome for cold weather

This is a nice snug fit to keep heat in and protect you from the elements. Could be longer in the neck so it layers under your coat better but other then that, it is solid piece to keep your head warm, keep wind off your face and provide concealment at the same time. Easy to pull the front down to eat or drink and it doesn't seem like it will stretch over time.

Overall warm

Very warm and comfortable but the wool face mask keeps sliding down so I have to keep adjusting and moving in my tree stand or let my face get cold

Very warm. Quality built.

Thought I would test this out for work/hunting this winter. Haven't hit single digits yet but I have been toasty warm in the low teens. On top of that it is very comfortable to wear. I wouldn't wear it over 30-40 degrees fahrenheit or you will ROAST. It is a 5 star product I only gave it 4 because it lacks color options.

Warm + well-designed
5
I have multiple balaclavas and this is by far the warmest and most comfortable. The shearling liner is soft and warm and, unlike some other fabrics, it's not itchy. The fabric in front of the mouth is breathable and didn't ice up even when it was below freezing and we were hiking hard. This piece definitely kept my head warm during the high winds and below freezing temps elk hunting.

Favorite Head Cover

This is one of my all time favorite head covers. Especially when it is windy and cold. The Tundra performs exceptional.

Much warmer than the Wind River Balaclava. Awesome for stationary hunting. This will keep your head warm.

Blew Me Away, Impressive

I own a lot of First Lite articles and this Balaclava was incredibly impressive, it delivered beyond my expectations. The fit, the comfort and the performance were all out this world. I hunted late December Whitetail in Minnesota out of a tree stand hunting without a hat and this Balaclava was all I needed in below 15 degree weather. Another thing that surprised me was how well I could hear my surroundings. Great work you guys! Now, make a hand warmer muff out of the same materials!

New cold weather go to..

I saw this Balaclava at ATA for the first time and wasn't sure I'd wear it it over my beanie and regular merino neck gator. I ended up buying it and I had an opportunity to try it this year late season in 7 degree weather on a 4 hr evening sit and I loved it. Its very warm and super comfortable. I like that I could move the face mask portion down if I wanted to and I definitely liked the fleece lining. I even wore a merino beanie cap over top of the Balaclava to hold a little tighter compression on my head and I stayed very warm and comfortable. If you're looking for a good late season piece I'd recommend checking this Balaclava out.

Heady comfort

One of the most comfortable pieces of headwear I have ever worn. Cannot wait to wear it for the coming season's bone-chilling days.

Warm and Comfortable
5
This cold weather balaclava is warm and comfortable. The fleece lining on the inside is awesome. I haven't got a chance to test it out in extremely cold conditions yet, but I'm looking forward to using it for duck season as well as on the mountain while skiing. The soft shell on the outside looks like it will block the wind well and be water resistant. I only wish it was offered in all black as well. I would defiantly recommend this to any one that is going to be out in cold during winter time regardless of the activity.
