Product Details

One of our most versatile pieces, the First Lite Springer vest is made from the same fabric as our Labrador full zip sweater. We liked the way the Labrador fit so much that we decided to include a vest style for those days when you need to keep your core warm but want the extra freedom and reduced weight of a vest. When freedom of movement, stealth and performance are critical, the Springer can handle the mission.

An important note about sizing: The Springer and Labrador Heavyweight Merino layers are sized up just a bit, designed to be worn over your other layers. Thus you can expect a generous fit and may choose to size down if you like a tighter fit. Please use the chat function if you have any questions.

Great base

Love this vest, great base layer especially teamed up with the storm tight rain jacket for those windy cool days but not cold enough for heavier clothes

Great Vest

Nice trim fit. Perfect on chilly days. I use this when a puffy vest is too much.

I never thought I would wear a vest

I waited a full year of putting this vest to the test before writing a review. I originally thought a vest would not offer me the warmth and comfort I was looking for, and then I put the Springer on. I read the reviews just as you are now and was convinced to give it a shot and I was one of the best decisions I've made in upgrading my hunting wardrobe. The vest is great as a layering tool, and retains body heat in a very effective manner. The pocket placement is very convenient for a bow hunter, and the merino wool breaths very well. On days where it was too cold just to wear a base layer, but too warm to wear my North Branch jacket, the Springer vest provides a happy medium. During very cold months where the temperatures can be in the single digits, the vest provides a great layer on top of the base layer to keep the body warm! Buy this vest as you'll wish you did if you don't!

Become a "vest guy" - buy this.

I was, then I wasn't, then decided on one more piece of insulation with this vest - and it's a homerun. Perfect piece for early season chilly mornings and nights, without overheating. What I really like it for is that when it got cold I would reverse the normal "layer" and wear it over my cirrus jacket which gave me the same warmth and significantly quieted down the jacket. gets a little wet? Still does it's job.

Also, looks cooler than a tank top if the sun is out and the guns must be out.

I hate vests, but I look good in this one!

I wore this piece this season and it was great on cooler mornings/evenings when you wanted something to cover vitals but not your arms. Very roomy and the pockets on this thing rock. Wish they would put the pockets on the Labrador sweater also. I do not like wearing vests, but had this one on or in my bag a lot this season, love it.

What a vest should be

A must have for glassing and cold weather layering
5
I wear this vest over top of a Llano crew and the Chama hoody. Ideal for cold weather layering or when you stop and glass for long durations to prevent getting a chill after climbing that hill. I like the vest for my third layer as it is lighter for packing and frankly I don't need that much warmth on my arms especially if I am wearing a coat overtop. First Lite merino is the best I have tried, comfortable, and doesn't retain odours even after repetitive days of wear and busting your rear hiking into sheep country.

Outstanding

One of the best vest I have ever worn I love the warmth and it's very thin and and a great warming layer. Merino wool is a great product and First Lite makes great use of it!

I'm not a vest guy but...

I was undecided on buying a vest since I've never really utilized one in my gear arsenal. I had a little extra to splurge on my purchase so I thought I'd try it out. Man, I'm glad I did. The Chama Hoody Springer vest combo is awesome! Breathable, warm, windproof, non constricting, and quiet. I was surprised how much of a difference this vest had on my ability to control my body heat and perspiration while on long hike during changing weather periods.

Its great to throw this vest on over another piece of gear and get warmed up quick and then throw it back in my backpack until I rest for an extended period or plan on cooling down.

You need this Vest

Like most who have reviewed this product I am not really a vest guy either but my father in law bought this for me last Christmas and I cannot be happier with it. This vest fits great and is of course made with the top quality that all Firstlite Merino products are constructed with. I use it in two different ways. When it is really cold out I put this on before my puffy and it really assists in keeping the heat it. When its not cool enough for my puffy but still cold this is great because it keeps my body warm warm but still allows my arms to have the freedom necessary for bowhunting. Just an all around great product that you definitely need in your pack.

Great vest

There is nothing really special about this vest. It does its job as a great layering piece. The real benefit is that its a full zip MERINO layer. I'm a big fan of 1/2 zip or full zip layers, and this does the job. I keep hoping one year First Lite might look into a blaze orange color.

Great for on the move

I love this piece as I get cold when I sit to glass or call. It has just enough warmth that I can wear this with a base layer, stay concealed and not scare the animals away with the sound of my chattering teeth. My niece also mentioned that I look "buff" when I wear it!

This is a review of the Springer Vest that I purchased from Vantage Point Outfitters. I am a Merino fanatic, and feel that it is the best fabric for our outdoor pursuits in the PNW. Always quiet, warm when wet, resists odours, almost impossible to light on fire, no UV signature and at the end of its useful life, it can be composted or used as insulation!

I really like the ASAT pattern too! I am getting more and more frustrated with the "fashion" of camo, so I like to wear something different. Concealment and silhouette break up is still important IMO and ASAT fits that bill perfectly. First Lite also has a new pattern for 2015 called Fusion that really has me excited too. It looks to be a sweet camo, and it is different. The vest fit true to size. I am 6'1" 190# and the large fits with enough room for layers. Probably could have gone with a medium, but it would have been constrictive with layers. The high collar is excellent, as are the two hand warmer pockets. First Lite adds pieces of cord to the zipper pulls to aid in opening them, especially with gloves. This piece is heavier merino than I thought, gratefully, but not to heavy to be bulky. Plenty of warmth and no sleeves to get in the way when shooting a bow. I highly recommend First Lite products. You are going to pay for it, but unlike many of the other premium brands, you can feel good wearing natural fiber, not plastic crap. Be a wolf in sheeps clothing!

I purchased this vest about a month ago. I haven't worn it in the field yet, since it is early spring. I am a Merino fanatic, and feel that it is the best fabric for our outdoor pursuits in the PNW. Always quiet, warm when wet, resists odours, fire resistant, and at the end of its useful life(which is well over a decade IMO), it can be composted or used as insulation! A great add to any base layer line....

Like many hunters I am not a "vest" guy, but decided to give the Springer Vest a shot. Not only does it add a nice layer of warmth, it is relatively lite and easily added or shed during a hunt. I keep it in my pack when the temperature starts to cool in the mid/late season. Throw one of the Chamas under and then the puffy over and you should be good to go.

Superb

I've never been a "vest" guy. I always found them to be too bulky, too loose fitting, too short, and uncomfortably fitted. That is, until I tried the Springer. It fits me like a glove, is extremely comfortable, long enough to tuck in if I choose to do so but short enough to leave out without turning into a tunic. The warmth of this vest is incredible, and it's very tough. I have worn mine every day in the field over this now-almost-complete last hunting season, and that means hiking through thick brush, cat-claw briars, over rocks, etc., and it's held up great. In "Dry Earth", it's even "fashionable" enough to wear around town and I do that regularly. It dries fast, does not hold odor, and packs well. This is one of my most favorite pieces of gear now and it's almost like an AmEx: I won't leave home without it. I'll be adding more FirstLite gear to the inventory to replace stuff that just doesn't measure up to FirstLite quality, and the Springer was a great way to start.

Great for layering or by itself

I wore my Springer vest throughout my moose hunt in northern British Columbia in September. Sometimes it was my outer layer over a Llano SS and Chama Hoody, and other times it was a layering piece under my Uncompahgre Puffy jacket. It is extremely versatile. Since I have returned to regular everyday life, I find it to be an excellent layer to wear around on cold fall days. I have it in Dry Earth and it looks as good with jeans as it does with my ASAT Camo out in the field. Thanks First Lite, you have done it again!

Bringing the Vest Back
I hadn't used a vest in a long time until I used the Springer. Awesome do-it-all layer and a great vest to have in the pack. Sturdy with good zipper. Dig.

Good Vest
Bought this after buying my chama qz. It's the perfect layer to go top because it's quiet and doesn't hold stink AT ALL. My favorite vest so far.
