Get a pair...you will love them! 1/3/2019

Picked these up hoping they would be warm enough and still give me touch to run remote and hand calls predator hunting. They are the perfect glove for the job. Can't believe how warm they are considering the thickness. Super comfortable and flexible in the fingers, yet still offer protection to your hands when scrambling through nasty stuff. I highly recommend and they will be in my pack full time.

Surprisingly warm - Intensely versatile 12/13/2018

These gloves really surprised me. I bought them for a late season mule deer hunt here in Idaho. I pared them with the Talus fingerless glove as a liner and I had no issue with cold hands. Temps were between the single digits and the 40s and I had no problems. Additionally, I had enough dexterity to use my release without compromise. Whats more that I feel they will be a great everyday hunting glove when the temps are not quite as cold. Highly recommended.

Fit was good. I typically wear a size 10 glove. These seemed true to size.

Best gloves I own 11/28/2018

These gloves are not too bulky but still keep you warm. The goat skin leather is both tough and flexible and the fit is spot on. Great for everything from field waterfowl to upland to mid-late deer season. I will be buying another pair shortly because I use these for everything.

A new must have for my kit, great glove 11/26/2018

Initially purchase these gloves as my day to day gloves for the cold Minneapolis winters. Great for that, but I used them during the WI gun deer season and I was very satisfied with them for that too. In conjunction with a hand muff, they kept my hand warm and ready with great dexterity and feel. I can already see these would be the perfect glove for setting up treestands during hang and hunts.

Good all-around mid-season glove 11/21/2018

Just used these for a four day November tree stand hunt in KY. Held up against the wind, great dexterity - didn't have to take them off to do anything besides play with my phone. Cuff is a good length, if you have a baselayer with thumbholes, you won't have any openings for the wind to get in.

How it fits
I wear an XL in pretty much any glove and this fit just fine.

Can’t go wrong 11/20/2018

Best hunting glove I’ve owned hands down. These gloves comfortable and durable. I last used these gloves in Montana in temperatures from 20-40 degrees with the AeroWool liners. The gloves performed well and my hands only got cold when I sat glassing for more than 30 mintues or so. I brought mittens along just in case but didn’t need them much. Thanks for the great product FirstLite.

Initially great, don't hold up 10/24/2018

When I first got the gloves I was very happy. The fit was great, and they worked great. With a new addition to the family just before deer season opened, I knew I wouldn't get much time in the woods. I did think that the gloves would outlast the 4 times I've made it out thus far. The gloves are still warm, but the leather has already started to wear through, and the stitching has started to come apart.

Overall, very comfortable, but they don't hold up.

Awesome gloves 10/18/2018

I’ve owned two pairs only because I lost my right one. They are perfect for cooler-cold days. If your are hauling meat out of hell holes or just stalking through they work perfectly. They really don’t inhibit my feeling of touch at all- I can easily sense my fly line, settle my finger on my release and feel the trigger. I highly recommend these gloves. Also they aren’t really that bad on warmer days

How it fits

Excellent All Purpose Gloves 9/26/2018

These gloves are always in my pack, whether it's a 10-day backpack hunt or weeknight hike. They breathe well, have excellent grip, are easy to get on and off without feeling too loose and low bulk so you can still get your finger in the trigger guard. The reinforced knuckles and palm are great for climbing through brush, over deadfalls and on rocky scrambles. The merino wool is warm even when wet. Last September, we were caught in a 12-hour downpour at 10k ft and my hands were warm even though the gloves were completely soaked. I hung them up over night and they were dry in the AM. I'd highly recommend these gloves to anyone and everyone venturing into the great outdoors.

Great gloves for ealry season elk 8/30/2018

I purchased these gloves in blaze orange, can't hurt to be a little more visible to other hunters on public land. They seem like they will be a perfect early season gloves. Light and warm, but still very breathable. If you layer under them I'm sure they will be good mid season gloves too.

Follow the size guide they give its spot on 8/29/2018

I measured my hands per the sizing guide and it was spot on for what I needed, they are a good lighter weight glove that look like they can handle abuse without being too thick that you lose dexterity. If you like running gloves these are a must have.

Great Gloves in and out of the Field 7/29/2018

I got these gloves this winter and couldn't be more pleased. I got them after duck season in February when I started squirrel hunting. I wanted some gloves to wear in the woods and fields of NC and these have done exactly what I wanted them to do. I also wore them all the way through turkey season where temperatures climb into the 60's. They're warm, yet breathable, flexible, lightweight, and durable. Furthermore, there also just damn good looking gloves. I wear them around town, out at night, and they keep your hands warm when drinking a frosty cold beer. Side note, don't be alarmed if leather looks like it's wearing away. It's somewhat normal for leather to do this. Great gloves, would recommend for any hunting, outdoor activity, or sporting around town.

Excited to test out 7/29/2018

Got these for an archery elk hunt. I was torn on what pair of FL gloves to get. I ended up choosing these gloves for their versatility and dexterity.
No velcro so they will be very quiet. The leather adds durability to a merino back. They fit me great and feel really good. Can't wait to try them out.

Great gloves, but thumbs need more leather. 6/11/2018

I used thsse for a couple seasons as my go-to gloves in several different types of weather conditions during my hunts. They were great and kept my hands warm and they dried fairly quickly if they got wet from rain or snow. Only complaint is the thumbs could have more protection/leather as the other finger tips do. Reason being both thumbs on the gloves started to develop a hole on the tip where there is wool last year and now have complete holes where my thumbs go through. I would buy another pair to replace if that small reinforcement change was made to the thumbs.

Excellent Gloves 3/21/2018

These are amazing gloves to work, hunting, hiking, etc. I use them deer and upland bird hunting as they provide excellent feel and comfort. They are also surprisingly warm for a light weight glove. It is really hard to find good leather gloves these days and these are fantastic.

My only complaint is that I purchased a couple extra pairs in case First Light decided to phase them out. I hate it when a manufacturer stops making something I like. Well, the extra ones I purchased came with a different color thread that looks bad as opposed to the first pair I purchased that has threads of the same color as the leather and the wool. I will get them dirty and bloody so the bright threads don't look so bad, but until then, they look odd.

Great Glove 3/4/2018

These are a great glove. I hunt some rough country that requires leather to protect my hands. I just don’t like all leather gloves and these gloves fit the bill with leather only where it’s needed.

One of the most awesome gloves ever 2/23/2018

I have used these a ton during my last late season deer hunt and quite a few winter fishing trips and they were seriously the best glove I have ever worn- just can't get em wet! Awesome for the time you have to spend on the oars even if it's balmy! The leather palms and knuckles are sensitive enough to feel the fly line or your release and hardy enough to hold up to some heavy branch raking. I love these damn things!

Hard to Kill 2/16/2018

I've been putting these gloves through the paces for the last two years and they haven't let me down yet. They've become my spring scouting/prep gloves for cutting trails through brambles and brush, and I've been impressed with how much abuse they can take. First Lite hit the perfect balance of warmth, protection, and dexterity with this glove. I'll definitely get a second pair when the ones I'm on die, but it may take a couple more years. Great work on this glove First Lite.

Exactly what I wanted and expected. 2/13/2018

These gloves fit me very well and are very comfortable to wear for the whole day. Love the leather and merino combination. I’ve worn these while chasing pheasants and laying in the field waiting for geese, with the assistance of a liner I had no issues with the below freezing conditions. Had no issues with the leather slipping on my gun when shouldering. Very happy with this product.

Warm, dry fast 11/18/2017

Paired these up with the Aerowool liners, both size large. I'd say the size runs true, as that's same size I wear all my gloves in.

The gloves were warm and dried fast after getting soaked by wet snow and mud.

I wouldn't mind a little extra leather along the thumb for the durability.

Top of the Line-Hands Down! 11/9/2017

These gloves are my go to for hunting out West, and have never failed to exceed my expectations. I recently wore these out in Montana where the windchill was hovering at 2 degrees and my fingers never felt anything less than toasty. Zero loss in dexterity made handling my GPS, rifle, spotting scope, and binoculars a breeze.

A must buy.

Versatile and Awesome 11/6/2017

These gloves enable great dexterity and are comfortable in wide range of temperatures. They are a staple in the field all fall for me. The knuckle padding is great on extended stalks that involve some crawling around. I love wearing them on Pronghorn hunts for that reason. The goat skin has broken in nicely and is even better then when I got them. I recommend them.

Extreme misrepresentation 10/20/2017

Saddens me to leave a less than stellar review for a product from a company that I rely on for my hunting gear but I feel like I've been misguided in the capabilities of this product. I purchased these for my yearly elk hunt in Colorado and the first time the temps dropped, these gloves failed to keep my hands close to warm. Yes, I wear a liner and despite having a liner glove I've used for many cold weather hunts, these gloves could not keep my hands warm. Despite being extremely weight conscious since I hunt public lands and pack deep into the unit I hunt, I packed an older second pair in case these failed and for that I'm very thankful. This particular glove need to be advertised as a driving glove, not a hunting glove. On top of not keeping my hands remotely warm, I'm fairly certain this glove would have not held up long going up and down mountains. Do not purchase

The Perfect Sheep Hunting Glove 10/11/2017

I've had the pleasure of using the Shale Hybrid glove during several Aoudad and Mule Deer hunts. The leather palm holds up to the sharp rocks while the merino wool keeps your hands warm. They are by far my favorite gloves.

Nickname: Sakarias
Balance - Durability/Dexterity 9/13/2017

I use the gloves daily from the moment the temperature goes above -5C until the mercury dips back down again. Fit is as expected, the cuff is not to long nor the fingers baggy. They are durable enough to protect your hands from the friction of repetitive task as well as thorns while still allowing you to manipulate buttons on GPS and radios. Both the leather and wool dry quickly and retain some warmth when wet. My only comment would be to have a tactical line that has a more subdued logo.

So much yes! 7/8/2017

My top rated First Lite glove for sure. Fit and comfort is great! I wear these for quail and grouse hunting, hike-ins, glassing, staying warm at camp, all backpacking trips, 14er hikes, driving, and daily throughout the winter in CO. They are Merino so treat them right and don't use them like a work glove and they'll last a long time.

Will Purchase again 5/1/2017

I use these gloves all the time. They are awesome early season elk gloves and spring turkey gloves. I loved that you don't lose any dexterity in your fingers. I'm not a person that likes to wear gloves. I usually just suffer with cold hands but that's not an issue with these gloves.. I'm also a LE Officer and a canine handler, these gloves get used at work all year for the the same reasons I like them for hunting. Awesome gloves.

Gotta have em! 3/20/2017

I spent many days in these gloves; nearly three months hunting deer and elk in the Rockies. Bottom line is that they're super comfortable, won't over-heat while you're hiking, and keep your hands nice and cozy while you're sitting. If the temps dropped way down, I wore a pair of Aerowool glove liners underneath to take the chill off. Climbing over rocks, or pulling my way up an oak brush covered mountain side, they were solid. I left mine on a mountain, and backtracked a mile to get them, because I couldn't stand the thought of finishing the season without them. I noticed that one of the reviews mentioned a problem with the thumb not having leather on the backside like the rest of the fingers. Firstlite must have addressed this issue. Unlike the pictures shown, mine do have leather on the backside of the thumb.

Good quality gloves 1/23/2017

I live in socal. Not the coldest of places but, in winter most of my shooting trips are in the high dessert. Took these up to the joshua tree shooting area where it was 48 and 25mph winds. Making it feel like 38. Pretty cold for yoyr hands to shoot in. Once i put these on the problem was solved and then some. In these conditions my hands were fine. May have been fine even down to lets say 25 degrees easily.
As for the fit and performance... Its top of the line. Just thick enough to actually still have trigger control and make well placed shots. As for the leather on the tips wearing out? May have been a bad batch or something, ive had these for. A year n a half so far and they are still gion strong. I guess just because you buy a 70$ glove , that dosent mean you dont have to care for them. I put leather oil once a year to preserve them. So all in all great buy. No complaints. Great glove but not built for alpine hunting 10/14/2016

I ordered these as they had all the features I was looking for in a light weight glove for early season sheep hunting. Unfortunately after a sheep hunt and a few scouting trips the gloves are trash. If you look closely all the fingers except the thumb have the leather that covers the tips. This is the weak point of these gloves. My thumbs wore out on these, and I assume it is because of the use of trekking poles or carrying a rifle. The rest of the glove looks brand new with the exception of the orange letters they peeled off on the first use. It’s really hard to be #dirtbagdedicated when you’re on a tight budget and a $70 pair of gloves won’t last a full season. I really enjoyed every aspect of the glove as they will keep your hands warm and cool. But, if you’re looking for a glove to handle steep ascents in the “shale” look elsewhere as these will not last.

Great for climbing stands and crawling through brush 8/9/2016

I have smaller hands than average and also prefer a form fit in gloves, so usually finding the right pair of gloves that are comfortable, flexible, and tough is a chore. However, I measured my hands and used the sizing chart provided here and found that I fall between a medium and small glove. I got the medium size and the fit is perfect.

They are very fitted which allows for precise operation of my bow and release. Generally, I can't operate anything with gloves on that are tough enough to not rip right out of the package. Also, the grip is very grippy (that's a word, right?), so it provides a level of comfort not usually afforded by gloves.

Also, the Merino backing is very stretchy, allowing for a full range of motion while using these gloves. Like all First Lite Merino, it doesn't stink and is very warm, but breathes unlike any material on the market today. There really is no comparison for this material.... Any comparison sounds like exaggeration.

I can't shoot my rifle with the gloves on, but I can't shoot it with any gloves. The trigger is set at 1.5 lbs, so it's just too light for use with any gloves. However, operating a shotgun shouldn't be any problem. I'd definitely take these on a Nebraska bird hunt as my primary gloves.

These gloves are a bit heavier in thickness than a very good quality pair of shooting gloves, but quite a bit stronger. They are probably half as heavy as a pair of Mechanix gloves. The goat leather allows for similar strength but more than twice the "feel". They are reinforced in all the right places, so I have no problem believing they will serve me several years as my primary cool weather hunting gloves.

People interested in these would be bird hunters, those crawling to a shooting position through rough terrain, fall hunters climbing into cold stands, those building ground blinds and needing a hunting/ work glove, and cool weather archery hunters. In short, buy them if you're on the line. You won't be disappointed.
