This is just a review re: fit. I read the note about it being sized the same as the unpronounceable jacket and figured I'd like a vest to be fairly fitted (both for wear out/around town, as well as a layering option to fit under outer layers). I'm 6'1", 200-205ish, wear size 35 jeans and usually only wear larges, but ordered a medium. It's definitely slightly snug, but that's what I wanted, should work great as an outer layer over a flannel on cool days in the fall around town, and fits well under a catalyst jacket in large. If you're on the border line between two sizes or want a somewhat tailored look, go down a size.
You know that one piece that stays in your pack every time you go out? Yeah...this is it. It’s extremely light and has incredible warmth. This is my equalizer for changing conditions, plus it stuffs into its own pocket to make a great pillow. It’s a little noiser than I would prefer for archery is the only thing I would change if I could. Great piece, I never go out without it.
This vest is either on my body or in my pack. Never left behind in the truck. The warmth to weight ratio is outstanding and is a perfect layering piece. For early September elk hunts it provides just enough warmth when paired with a wick or fuse top and then comes off/packs up easy when the temps rise. I also used it extensively during the late season mule deer hunt paired with a grid fleece for active spot/stock and then as a layering piece underneath my uncompahgre puffy or corrugate guide when sitting or glassing. In my mind this a a must have for any serious hunter.
This vest can do it all. I have worn it anywhere from out around town to layering in the field. It is warm, quiet, comfortable and all of the features are well thought out on this vest. I have owned a lot of vests over the last few years and will not be going back from this one! One improvement I would suggest would be to make it about an inch longer to cover up layers beneath better but not a huge deal out in the field. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a lightweight, stylish option to add warmth to their arsenal!
The vest is by far my most wearable piece for my Oregon September elk hunt. For cold early mornings, I can wear this piece over my Sawtooth jacket and still be active without overheating. When the day warms up, I simply shed the Sawtooth jacket and move forward with a base layer and the vest. The warmth to weight ratio is perfect for all my backpack hunts. Early season in Oregon can be taken care of with just the Uncompahgre vest as my outerwear piece.
