During rifle mule deer season here in Idaho, I essentially maintain my archery season kit but with a few key additions. This system is the Alturas Guide Pant, Wick WZ, and the Aurora Puffy Jacket. These items come with me on the mountain every time I head out. With temperatures ranging from 20’s in the morning to 60’s during the day, properly layering is paramount for staying comfortable. On the bottom, I add the Kiln Long Jane Bottom for 250g of merino goodness to warm my legs. On top, I add the Kiln Hoody and Sawtooth Jacket. The Talus Fingerless Gloves are my go-to for every mountain hunt and with the addition of the Grizzly Mitt for colder days. Let’s not forget this is rifle season we are talking about, so hunter’s orange is of utmost importance. I wear a blaze orange Merino Beanie or Brimmed Beanie to keep visible.
