Two things immediately come to mind at the mention of pronghorn archery season: the blazing, high desert sun and the sage-covered, rock-strewn dirt that you inevitably find yourself crawling over. Therefore, when attempting to get within range of the wily speed goat, your apparel needs to be light, breathable and durable. My go-to top is the AeroWool Wick Ultralight 150 Hoody. Light and airy for the heat with a hood to protect the head and neck, this piece was purpose-built for chasing pronghorn in August. Below the belt, I rock the AeroWool Wick Ultralight 150 Loose Fit Boxer Short and the bombproof Corrugate Guide Pant, which excels at protecting my legs from scraggly sage and sharp rocks. To top off my kit, I reach for the quick drying 5-Panel Tech Cap, Traverse Gaiters to keep out pebbles and seeds, and a pair of Scree Gloves to protect my hands from gravel and brush when crawling on all fours.
