If Socks Were Crack

It took me a while to pull the trigger on these socks two years ago. The less than confidence boosting reputation of light weight wool socks being a durability issue had kept me from placing an order.
No where do these socks reflect that poor reputation. I bought two pair two years ago and have more miles in all seasons on these socks than I could reflect. Training hikes in the summer, miles in the spring shed hunting and fall/winter hunting seasons for everything from pronghorn and elk to pheasants and waterfowl, these friends of feet have endured. Most of the time I wear these to work too. You can't go wrong.

Primary Use: Uhhh... it’s pair of socks. It goes on my feet...
Not for the large of leg

Let me start by saying that these are very nice socks. They seem to be very well made and are soft and comfortable to wear... until I pulled them all the way up. The L/XL said its for sizes 9-12, so I was already expecting them to be a little tight being that I am a size 13. But the foot part actually fits great. I would go as far to say a size 14 or 15 might be able to squeeze in them. The issue I have is right at the top of the sock above the main bulk of my calves. It’s just too dang tight and it kind of ruins the rest of the sock for me. It’s not like a compression tightness, it’s just the rim around the top part the sock. It feels like it would probably cut off my circulation if I wore them all the way up my calves for a long period of time. I am 6’3”, 240. I am not in the greatest shape of my life, but I run several miles a day almost every day of the week. I am just a bigger framed fella and I have always had large legs no matter what shape I am in.
So unfortunately these socks were designed with the more streamlined or skinny/lanky outdoorsmen and women in mind. Which is really disappointing because I was hoping these were going to be my go-to sock that I could own several pairs of to keep in my bag on hunts. I’m just glad I didn’t buy them all before trying a pair because I live in Alaska and it looks like that free return program is only good in the lower 48. So it looks like I will be keeping these, which is fine. I will just have to wear them folded over below my calves. Sorry FL, I really wanted to like these. If you made a XXL or maybe a wide-calf version of these socks I would gladly buy them again.

Awesome in the Cold

I have several brands of Merino socks at varying thickness, This sock has worked the best for me but today I thought I would try a pair I bought elsewhere. I am going back to my FL Triads. The FL are fairly thin for cold weather but they flat get it done and really comfortable. First issue I had with the other brand is they bunched up under my boot causing some issues walking. I’m going to buy a few new pairs of the FL Triads. Also, I like the over the calf versions. Thanks FL for making a GREAT sock for all season Deer hunting in Ky.

They say merino makes all the difference...

It's not just any merino, quality matters. Not all merino wool is created equal. This summer I participated in a Fly Fishing event that took us to backcountry waters all over Colorado. I had a new pair of the Mtn Athlete Triad socks, along with other merino brands. The difference between them was night and day. The First Lite Mtn Athlete Triad socks were comfortable, durable, better at managing moisture in my boots, and they remained significantly more comfortable by the end of a long day. After that experience, I replaced my old wool socks with First Lite merino wool socks before hunting season. Now after a full season of hunting on these socks, I'm totally sold. From elk in Montana, to pronghorn in Wyoming, to mule deer in Colorado and Texas, these are my new go-to hunting socks.

Poor fit, Poor Description of Size

I am a size 9-1/2-10 US Mens. Heel pocket is on my achilles tendon, not my heel. Please adjust your sizes for socks and gaiters to >10 = S/M <11 = LG/XLG
