I got an XL as my chest measured 46” and i usually wear an xl polo. (5’10” 215). The torso is long which is nice and wont creep and let wind up. I couldn’t go to a lrge as my chest would be tight and uncomfortable
If you don't know already, a base layer that wicked moisture away is a must when out in the field for optimal temperature regulation. This is where this hoody comes in. Serves its purpose effectively. Supper comfy.
I have wider shoulders, and this puppy fits great.
perfect base layer for warm days
This product to its word, although I have only wore it a couple of times, it kept me comfortable during those warmer days.
First off there is no comparison when it comes to First Lite's Merino base layers and nothing better especially in hot weather conditions. I have several other merino base layers from several other high end hunting companies and the only reason I still have them is I am too lazy to try to sell them on eBay. First lite is by far the most comfortable and the Wick hoody in particular is by far the best base layer for hot weather conditions. Other lightweight merino hoodies (besides being not as comfortable) have tight fitting hoods which makes no sense in hot weather conditions. First lite's Wick hoody has a generous hood to provide that sun protection without smothering you. I use this hoody for everything: fishing, surf checks, taking the kids to the playground. It is the perfect travel shirt.. I even wear to dinner although I should probably buy a solid color for that.
I also tried out the new Spectre camo... i know it was designed for whitetails but I actually think it is there most versatile pattern. We don't have white tails in Hawaii but most of the time when you are stalking any sort of ungulate (or anything really) you want to come in from above which means that the any camo designed for the tree stand would work equally well in open country stalks. The color palate also strikes the perfect balance for moving through space but green vegetation and through open areas with rock end red dirt. Took this out goat hunting on the cliffs above Waimea valley and was able to get within 10 feet of a bedded nanny. She looked around and looked right past me even though there was not much coverage around me. Could not be happier.
I have several of these. I use them for work and recreation both. The hoodie keeps the sun off of you and takes the edge of a cold wind. The hoodie also comes in handy to keep your head warm inside a sleeping bag during cold nights!
Ordered the items as a solid base layer, and warm weather hunts. Fits great, with good ventilation to wick the sweat off. Only part I’m not a huge fan of is how tight the hood is when sliding it over my head. Once it’s on however it fits perfectly over whatever hat I’m wearing. Overall a solid product
I was very happy with the Wick hoody bow hunting elk in CO this past September, which was a warm one. Perfect combination of breathability and coverage for warmer days hunting. I wore this as a base layer under the sawtooth jacket every morning I hunted. After three straight days and 22 miles of hiking the shirt still didn't stink. The medium fit me perfectly, my only grip is that the hood opening was a bit tight for putting the hood on and off. Once on it was a good snug fit, but I have to take my hat off with the hood because the opening is on the small side. Maybe a bit of stretch to the hood opening would solve this issue. Overall great layering piece.
I did a 9 day back country hunt in southern Colorado I encountered all elements rain snow sleet hail etc. This product performed really well kept me warm and was able to dry out fairly easy. Scent control was also very good keeping body Oder to a minimum we had many close 5yrd encounters with elk. Very satisfied.
I film/photograph hunting for a living and need minimal amounts of gear that cover a large range of conditions. The hoodie is perfect for hot weather and keeping the sun off your neck. I use it in early mule deer and whitetail season to keep the sun off of my neck as well and in late turkey season when mid day temps rise above 80
