I use these for temps below 40, or as a base inside a sleeping bag for cold nights!
Just what you’d expect out of merino wool: warm and breathable. No pulling at hair, no sweating when the temps start rising or you start walking. A comfortable base layer you don’t feel the need to change when it walking in cool temps. It’s my go to under my pants for mid to late season whitetails and cool mornings for spring gobblers.
Sometimes it's hard to know what type of product you're getting by viewing solely through the internet. I want to ensure you that the quality of this material is legit. The material is very dense, thick, and comfortable. The material reminds me of the cuff from the Sanctuary coat that First Lite offers. I would highly suggest that you purchase.
True to size, super warm, really comfy, very nice stretch yet no tight!
I received these as a Christmas gift, and I have recommended them to all of buddies since. I wasn't able to use them for hunting purposes yet with the way our seasons fall, but this winter I was able to wear them ice fishing and hiking on several occasions (all in temps ranging from single digits to below freezing) and I can't enough good things about them. They certainly keep me warm and dry when active and working up a sweat, and stayed that way once I stopped moving, and traditionally would find myself damp and cold. I've thrown them on to hop on my tractor and plow our driveway, and just sitting exposed to the elements, they performed beyond my expectations. Awesome product that can increase warmth and comfort for a wide range of layering and activities.
Used this during the most recent cold spell, the power went out and it was -10F outside and inside it hit zero. These undergarments performed exemplary keeping my legs nice and warm even when going outside. Even now I'm wearing it at 70F, Its very comfortable and not too warm.
This piece is sized very true to size and makes for the perfect heavyweight baselayer under any pant for winter use. I've gone dozens of miles in a day during the dead of winter with just this piece under my softshell pants and stayed plenty warm. The brushed inner of this piece feels very comfortable and the face layer of this piece resists wear pretty good against the seams of any hunting pant.
I recommend ordering your normal size.
This is a very warm layering piece.
Five star rating.
Went upland bird hunting in low teens, sub zero wind chill weather. These and the obsidian merino pants kept me not warm, but tolerable given the 40 mph wind gusts. Ended up boys deep in a snow drift and then mid calf deep in a creek and and still stayed tolerable. Defiantly lived up to their well deserved reputation.
My only critque is they're a little tight in the crotch and long in the leg.
These long Johns are perfect for cold weather tree stand sits in Ohio. Matched with a pair of merino pants and my legs were comfortable the duration of the hunt. Highly recommended for all outdoor activities in the cold weather.
