Spring Fever

Lydia Smith's Pursuit of an Idaho Boar

First Lite Pro Team member Lydia Smith is a self-taught elk hunting guide and artist from our home state of Idaho. In “Spring Fever”, she turns her sights from the September rut to spring bruins. With the help of a new friend, Jess Laughter, the two women hit the spring hills of the Gem State with an OTC tag in hand. Despite a week of long days behind glass, only spotting sows with cubs and corralled by a swollen river, Lydia gets her chance at a stud boar.

"There’s a lot of reasons for why I bear hunt, being out there in the spring time just getting to see things no one else gets to see, and so it's really incredible. But I also think bear hunting is quite vital in the hunting and conservation aspect, in terms of balance. And not only that but I would have to say that bear breakfast sausage is the best sausage I’ve ever had." - Lydia Smith

"Hunting means way more than just killing an animal, it’s the entire experience. From getting up in the morning and hearing the birds to seeing the sunrises and the sunsets to seeing animals interact. Everything about it is what drives me."
