Men's Hybrid Sawtooth Vest
300g Merino-X with DWR Nylon

The Men's Sawtooth Hybrid Vest sets a new standard in versatility for western and treestand hunters alike. Re-engineering our hybrid technology into a vest configuration, the Sawtooth Hybrid Vest is an excellent layering option for the backcountry.

Oriented across the back, our 20.5 micron, midweight 300 Merino-X fabric provides, extreme odor resistance and breathable warmth, allowing for greater airflow where packs and tree trunks typically cause heat and moisture to build. DWR coated nylon panels provide critical durability and water resistance where you need it most--the chest and shoulders. Body-mapped to preserve core body temperature, we've added 60g 37.5 synthetic insulation behind the durable nylon panels in the chest for added insulation and wind resistance.

Worn as a light outer layer for brisk early season days or worn in conjunction with other outwear for added warmth on winter days, the Men's Sawtooth Hybrid Vest defines versatility as a cornerstone of the First Lite layering system.

Go to vest 3/19/2019

I used this vest everyday on my Arizona mule deer hunt. I wore it over the fuse and under my catalyst jacket in the morning with temps in the teens. Once I started hiking and the sun was out I peeled the catalyst off and was comfortable throughout the day. The pockets are a great feature of the vest. I also used it a lot of the fall in the tree stand in Illinois. It’s definitely a versatile go to piece of gear.

Update to my July Review 11/29/2018

I really enjoyed this vest and it performed flawlessly for me both during Archery and rifle season in upstate NY. During the mild temps of October, it was packable for to take the chill off. The vest is extremely light considering its thermal properties. It is also quiet with great pocket design.

During this recent rifle season I hunted for 4-6 hours using this as an primary layer to keep my core warm without sweating on my approaches to my stand and once I was on station I was able to use this with my Woodbury Jacket for what was an ideal layering system for the temps (sub freezing temps in 25+ mph winds) I encountered. The Vest is versatile and worthy of being in anyone's kit.

The most versatile piece in my kit 11/29/2018

When you first pull it out of the box it has an different feel/weight in the hand than other gear because of the combination of fabrics, material weights and how they are placed on the piece. That "different" feel/weight in the hand translates to very versatile comfort in the woods with the perfectly body mapped placement of the materials. Warmth where you need it, light weight and breathable where most effective.

You can use this from early season to late season and wide ranging temps. I bow hunt primarily from treestands so often have long sits with not much exertion. You can get pretty cold even on moderate temp days especially if getting hot on the walk in and then cool off after inactivity in the stand. That's not a problem with this piece. It's been my outer layer in temps from the high 30s to low 50s worn over a long sleeve merino tee and Kiln 1/4 zip and been very comfortable while allowing wide range of motion and silence. In colder temps from teens to low 30s I use the same combo as above and add a heavier weight jacket over the top once I get on stand. Highly recommend and it will not disappoint.

How it fits
Perfect. Cut large enough to wear over base layers yet trim enough to wear as a mid layer with jacket over top. I like the smaller (relatively) cut arm holes. Keeps warmth in and also snug so there is not a lot of excess material under the arms which is perfect for drawing a bow silently.

Great Mid layer for October in Oregon 11/23/2018

I wore this vest as mid layer while blacktail hunting in Oregon. I wore a merino base layer, the saw tooth vest and the corrugate guide jacket as a outer layer. The vest added the the perfect amount of warmth while sitting and watching the tree lines until dark. Usually hunted in temps between 40 and 50. Vest fits great and is light weight.

Favorite FL Piece 11/12/2018

I can't say enough about this vest! In short, it is probably my favorite piece of FL gear (as of now anyway), as it is extremely comfortable and cozy. Having a warm vest is great, easy to wear with a jacket in windy/cold temps and light enough to wear as an outer layer when it warms up.

New favorite layer 10/28/2018

A very well-designed layering piece that’s perfect on cold mornings under a backpack, when sitting against a tree or stump, or as a mid layer under a heavier insulating piece. I just put it through the ringer on a tough Olympic Peninsula blacktail hunt and it performed exactly as intended.

How it fits
Fit runs just slightly large (as with most First Lite gear compared to some other brands), but the extra length is perfect for not riding up under a pack.

Extreme Versatility. 10/17/2018

This piece is extremely versatile. I use it as a part of my layering system for Eastern whitetails, and it’s also great for more mobile hunting. It allows you to regulate your temperature really well because of the insulation layout and the full zip. I actually prefer the vest over the jacket, but both are great pieces.

Great for Maintaining Core Warmth 10/3/2018

Great vest. Very quiet and soft to the touch. Maintained my core warmth well while wearing it over an ultra-light base layer during high activity. I normally wear a size medium but had to size down. The tail is exceptionally long and could pull it down below my butt.

Icing on the cake 9/18/2018

This vest was an awesome piece to add to my first lite collection. With these fall temperatures being nippy in the morning but warming up during the day still it was nice to have then be able to put it in the pack. Kept the core nice and warm in 30 degree temperatures at 5 am.

Awesome vest!! 9/10/2018

After just getting back from 6 days in the mountains of Colorado on a archery Elk hunt, I can tell you that this is a must have in your hunting arsenal! It is the best fitting vest I have worn yet. It is also smartly designed to give you warmth where it is needed; versus all over.

Perfect layering piece 8/30/2018

They don't make a women's vest (yet) so I dropped a size to get this. Layers perfectly with the Quarter Zip and doesn't ride up. The pockets are in convenient locations that are accessible without causing you to make a lot of movement. Very warm and comfortable.

No Sleeves, Yes Please 8/30/2018

This vest is a fantastic addition to your First Lite lineup. The vest sports a snug athletic cut, with room for layering. The perfect piece to layer over your base to take the chill off first thing before the temps heat up.

This vest is so versatile I bought two of them. Once for hunting, and one for every day wear. This vest gives the wearer a powerful look, as if Bruce Lee himself karate chopped the sleeves off. If you find yourself wearing one to work don't be surprised if you're immediately promoted to CEO.

The vest has taped zippers and fleece lined pockets, perfect for keeping your hands warm, and belongings dry. The shooters cut is perfect for the archery hunter like myself, do yourself a favor and click on the "add to cart" button. You won't regret it.

Ultimate warmth piece that is also silent. In my opinion the Sawtooth Vest outclasses the hybrid jacket. If youre a vest person there is no reason this isnt in your pack for early hunts where you dont need your puffy but just want more warmth on your core.

Best Hunting Gear... Period 8/30/2018

I go to Colorado every year to archery hunt Elk. So I see a wide range of weather, from the warm end of summer and the beginning of the cold season. Last year, it snowed on me everynight/ morning and was 75 by 11am. My First Lite Merino Wool clothing kept me comfortable the entire time. I cannot stress how much I love this clothing! I wore the same clothes for 2 weeks, no fool smell. I am super pysch'ed for this season with the new Hybrid Vest. Love the thinner material in the back to lessen the overheating while I carry my pack through the mountains. First Lite knocked another product out of the park for the serious hunters and outdoorsmen.

How it fits
The fit is perfect. Not too tight, but tight enough to not interfere with your movement or hunting action.

Well thought out, a key to warmth 8/30/2018

I haven’t had a chance to hunt in this yet but have worn it hiking and am a big proponent of vests for several reasons. One of the most important keys to staying warm is maintaining your core temperature and a vest made from quality materials is vital. I’m a bow only guy and don’t like jackets with bulky sleeves. This vest will allow me to shun a jacket and just wear base layers and/or the merino hoody underneath and be warm and free to shoot. FL put a lot of thought in this vest (water resistance, body mapping, wind resistance); can’t wait to test it elk hunting in Wyoming. I appreciate the pockets too as I only wear lightweight gloves. Disposable hand warmers in the pockets are all I need to keep my hands warm. This thing fits great and is very comfortable.

Awesome vest! 8/29/2018

This piece is just what I was hoping for. Great fit. This will be awesome for cool September mornings. It’s light enough that you won’t overheat in it but it’s another comfortable piece to layer with in the later months when it really cools down.

How it fits
I ordered the xl and I think it will work great just in case I layer with it. If you want a tighter fit I would go down a size than you usually wear

Rugged and Refined, Like a Good Whiskey 8/29/2018

This vest is a great layering piece for any wardrobe, be it hunting apparel or the board room of a fortune 500 company. In fact, I would assume that no matter what job you currently work in if you were to purchase this vest and wear it, then Warren Buffet himself would descend from the heavens and promote you to CEO.

Honestly though, I own one for hunting and one for normal everyday wear, that's how much I like this piece. The long cut in the back with a slim athletic style make it perfect to layer over or under other FL pieces. Stop cutting the sleeves off your shirts and buy this vest, this way you'll have at least a little dignity.

Interesting vest, skeptical of insulating capability 8/29/2018

This is a fairly lightweight vest made of 300 weight merino on the side and back panels and synthetic panels and a light amount of fill insulation over the front from shoulders to just above bottom of the vest. At a glance it appears that it will be fine as a layering piece for early to mid season hunts, but after that i'll probably need to break out the puffy gear. There are two standard side pockets and a single chest pocket, though I found the chest pocket oddly sized and on the smaller side and not really suitable for anything but slimmer or small items. Although it is also very quiet.

I'm still on the fence about how much use this vest will actually get throughout the season.

How it fits
I sized up to a 2XL per recommendation of FL staff and this vest fits me perfectly. I can layer it over baselayers and underneath the catalyst and sanctuary jacket no problem.

Incredible Piece 7/25/2018

I’ve been waiting for this best for 2years. To see this project from start to finish is awesome. The body mapping system of the sawtooth products is a game changer, the fit and is perfect.
I’m a huge vest fan, and wear them all fall and winter long. During early season archery and mid season I use the wick hoody or charma hoody depending on temps, and the sawtooth vest, and it’s the perfect combo.
Get it, and you’ll love it!

1 Vest to rule them all? 7/15/2018

I wasn't a vest guy until last season. I was new to archery last season and found that I need another layer for my core. That being said, I went with the FL Puffy Vest. It did well for what I intended. However, when the temps were dropping below 40F The fabric became too noisy. It appears FL has remedied this gap in capability with a far more superior product. The face of the fabric is very quiet, even after letting it sit in the freezer for an hour, this product was nearly as quiet as any merino item I own. My sample size is small regarding time in the garment which is indicated by the 4 star rating. A rating I'm confident will grade out as 5 Stars by end of season.
