Men's Kiln Quarter Zip
Midweight 250 Merino-X

From cold September mornings in the Rockies to late October sits in your favorite oak with leaves on the ground, the Kiln Quarter Zip provides maximum versatility to get the job done throughout the season. The evolution of our best-selling Chama QZ, the Kiln Quarter Zip incorporates a mid-coverage collar and quarter zip neck into a re-engineered fit using our new midweight 250 Merino-X fabric to create an essential tool for your kit. Worn as either a first or second layer, its guaranteed to keep you comfortable and odor-free all season long.

The Kiln Midweight 250 Merino-X fabric utilizes ultrafine, 18.5 micron merino wool in a high loft, interlock knit to create styles that surpass expectations in the broadest range of temperature and weather conditions. Blending a small component of spandex into this knit, these lofted interlock pieces can withstand extended hunts in the field, regardless of the season.

The Kiln midweight 250 Merino-X is also available in a men's crew and hoody.

New go to base layer 12/8/2018

Recently went on a backpack elk hunt in Colorado. Temps were in the 30's during the day with several inches of snow. Wore this shirt 90% of the time and while hiking, it was the only thing I wore. Shirt is very warm and comfortable. Best thing is when your back gets wet from sweat while hiking with a pack, this thing dries out fast and keeps you warm and going. Plan on buying more to wear as duty gear during the cold months for under my ballistic vest.

Great Shirt 11/13/2018

I wore this under my Wick Short Sleeve Crew and a jacket. When I would get a bit warm just unzip for a quick cool down, or zip back up to retain the body heat. Definitely a great addition to my shirt collection.

How it fits
Fit fantastic with long enough sleeves to not pull on your shoulders when you use the thumb hole.

No regrets! 11/8/2018

I am so impressed with the quality and versatility of this base layer. It also feels amazing and I would wear it daily - outside of hunting.

How it fits
I am an athletic build 5'10 and 200lbs. I like a base layer to be fitted/borderline tight. It fits just right in the chest but is a bit long in the sleeve. If I could do it over again, I would likely order a medium.

As advertised 10/15/2018

Wore this shirt on antelope hunt, weather was windy, rainy and 40-50 degrees. Stayed warm even when wet, very comfortable. Would definitely recommend. Ordering a hoodie version next.

Great early season outer 9/30/2018

I wore this with just a tee under it for the season opener, and it was the perfect shirt. Temps started around 70°, had a brisk 2K up hill hike, and ended with about 55° by nightfall. I was completely comfortable the whole time, as well as felt very dry after hiking. I love the thumb hole cuffs. I'm a little lanky and that takes care of my OCD with exposed wrists.

Great fit, incredibly comfortable 9/25/2018

Extremely happy with the purchase. As we slip into MN fall, this has been excellent for my on the water adventures. The best part is that I don’t need to wash, it can live in my truck for a week or two, often tossed in a pile and damp. Even with less than ideal care, no stank!

It’s also super comfy for around the office. Glad I got green instead of camo, as this is becoming an article I wear way too often. Maybe a couple more non camo colors, so my coworkers don’t realize my shirt hasn’t been washed in two weeks?

Can’t wait for the upcoming upland season,, should be my new go to top.

Good first impression 9/24/2018

I'm retiring an old Llano QZ, and after chatting with customer service I decided the Kiln was the way to go. The feel of the fabric is super soft, and I can already tell it's going to be much mor durable than my Llano. I'll be putting some days into it here when the Idaho general deer season opens and hope to add another star to the review then.

Best hunting shirt ever! 9/14/2018

I am 6'3" and 215lbs with long arms and the XL fits perfectly. I struggle to find a shirt that will fit my arms and shoulders while not fitting my core like a sack. This is the first shirt that I have owned that fits flawlessly! wore it 4 days strait covering a lot of miles and it never smelled at all. If you are on the fence about this just get one, you will only be sorry you didn't do it sooner.

Great piece of gear 8/31/2018

I have been using this kiln shirt in August September archery season and have been very pleased with it. Keeps me warm in the mornings when there's a little chill, and wicks moisture away in the heat of the day and stays relatively cool.

This is a great product! 8/30/2018

Just got back from 7 days hunting for elk. The Kiln got used this over a merino t-shirt in temps ranging from 40-70 and i never got too cold or two hot. The fusion camo pattern is phenomenal. First lites gear not only does exactly what I need it to, it’s comfortable beyond belief and looks amazing.

Needed in women's 8/30/2018

Update from the wife: I ordered a size small for my wife because she wanted the mock turtle neck rather than the crew style or hoodie offered in women's style/fit. She loves it and wears it constantly just for obvious reasons wish the fit was a little more tailored to her body type. She's excited to see if there will be anything more similar to this for women in the future!

How it fits
From my Wife: "long in the arms and snug in the chest."

Great warmth with no bulk 8/30/2018

I wear this top basically year round. It's versatile enough that I can wear it early season on chilly mornings, and use it as a layer when it gets down into the teens. What I like the most about it is that it's not bulky, but provides great warmth. I don't go to the woods without it.

Favorite Product So Far 8/30/2018

I bought the Kiln Quarter Zip along with some other layers from First Lite. This will be my first year using First Lite and to really figure out a layering system that works for me. Of all the products I purchased in my first order, this one is definitely my favorite. The quality and comfort is superb, but I really like the weight. I can see myself wearing it over and Aerowool or it being my first layer.

How it fits
I bought a large and had to send it back for a medium. I haven't received the medium yet, but I know it's going to fit well. The large was a tad baggy around the body and the sleeves were way too long for me.

Extremely soft and comfortable 8/30/2018

This merino fits perfectly. Athletic fit conforms to your shape without being too tight or loose. Compared to other "camo," merino shirts, this shirt is much softer with no scratchy feel to it. I am switching all my merino base layers over to first lite. Very high quality product.

Highly recommend 8/30/2018

I bought this for a few hunts I have coming up. I wanted something to wear at the end of the day around the camp fire and/or during the night. My initial feelings are it’s nice and it’s warm enough to keep the chill off. This is coming from someone who lives in southeast Alaska.

Very comfortable through temperature extremes 8/29/2018

I ordered this for a August antelope hunt in the high desert of Oregon. During the hunt we had a temperature range of 45 to 95. It was a very comfortable and plenty warm enough in the morning. Even during the heat of the day it was still comfortable with the front zipper to give a little more ventilation. This is a great base layer for any season and fine to wear by itself in early season.

Great Layer 8/29/2018

Bought this top as one of the first articles from first lite and I was excited to get it on as I had high expectations....it delivered. The top is comfortable, cut/designed well, and as wool always does it will function great. The addition of a little spandex to help the garment keep its "first day" fit on several day expeditions is great. I'm looking forward to having a wool base that doesn't get baggy on the 3rd day of my hunt.

How it fits
The fit is great for me with a medium, i like my base layers to fit like a comfy second layer of skin and this did just that....I have longer than normal arms for someone that is 6'1 my arm span is 6'5" and the sleeves fit perfect and with a 32 waist the medium fit my body well.

Well made baselayer 8/29/2018

Bough in a size XL even though a L would fit as I plan on layering with this piece and will have a lightweight wick under this. Fit was great and not baggy. Hands down the most comfortable base layer I have tried (and I have tried Kuiu and Sitka). Will be buying more of their base layers soon.

Top Quality 8/29/2018

Best mid-wt merino I’ve worn. Zero itch, stretch for movement, temp regulation etc. Zipper is small and unnoticed while wearing.

I’ve tried several other brands but they fail in durability, shape retention, and comfort. Not the Kiln. Great piece for all year.

Best base layer EVER 8/7/2018

I wore the Kiln quarter zip for four consecutive days on my Caribou hunt last week and it performed flawlessly. We had some high output hikes, static glassing sessions and a few low crawl stalks put on monster bulls. Kept the moisture off my skin and dried out very fast once wet, with either sweat or water in the tundra. It was the only base layer I took and after four days I was still very comfortable in it. Great layer that I will hunt well into the winter with.

Love it 7/27/2018

By far the most comfortable top I've ever worn. I wear it constantly whether I'm in the field or not and my wife just had me order one for her in a small because of how comfortable it is. I like that it's think enough to cut the early cool air in the deserts and high mountains of California and Arizona but still super light weight. I look forward to further testing it in my layering system this fall and winter.

How it fits
Being 6'3" and only 175lbs I always struggle to find any type of clothing to fit my rather slender body. If it fits my torso the sleeves are generally midway through my forearm and if I go up a size to compensate my arm length it usually looks like I'm wearing a dress. However, that is not the case with this shirt.
