Men's Furnace Quarter Zip
EXP 350 Merino-X

Whether you pulled a late-season elk hunt or are down to the closing bell in the treestand, First Lite's Furnace Quarter Zip is the perfect tool to help you punch that tag in cold weather. Using our Merino-X 350g EXP weight fabric, the Furnace Quarter Zip provides lofted insulation and protection from the coldest temperatures. Featuring a high collar and quarter zip for protection from the elements, and flatlock seams throughout its newly articulated fit, the Furnace Quarter Zip is the ideal layering piece over our other lightweight, next-to-skin styles.

Our Furnace EXP 350 Merino-X fabric incorporates a brushed (or fleeced) backside to our high loft, interlock knits to provide super-charged insulation without added weight. Adding this to the silent, odor-free benefits of merino wool, the Furnace merino is the hands-down choice for cold weather hunts.

The Furnace EXP 350 Merino-X is also available in a Henley and a Long John.

One of my favorite pieces of gear 2/23/2019

Extremely nice wool. Warm and incredibly soft. I gave 4 stars because it has a boxier cut than my other FL gear. The waste on the seem to flare a bit more than others. Even still, its one of my favorite pieces of gear. Extremely versatile for anything below 35.

Perfect for mid to late season 12/9/2018

Hunting upstate NY the Furnace was perfect for mid to late season. Layered with the Chama and a light weight base, it kept me comfortable down into the mid 40s and even lower when layered with the Cirrus and a soft shell. The quarter zip allowed the piece to breath while hiking in and the tall collar helped keep the chill off when I was in the stand. Highly recommended, there will be very few occasions that Furnace will not make the packing list.

Excellent cold weather base. 11/21/2018

Bought the quarter zip and long John in October in preparation for November deer season. The temperatures were below zero every day I was out, but I was very warm with this as my base. I have never been warmer than I have been this year. Perfect for cold November sits in Alberta.
Perfect fit for me, not too baggy and not too tight. Moves well with your body and no seams sitting in any unpleasant areas. The thumb holes in the sleeves are great for keeping them from bunching under other layers and provide a little extra warmth on your hands. Very soft comfortable merino fabric. Well done First Lite.

How it fits
True to size fit with what seems to be a more athletic cut. Lots of length in the body to keep the top tucked in.

Awesome cold weather shirt 11/20/2018

Great shirt. Good layering piece for cold weather deer stand hunts. Will be using even more for late season bow hunting in Minnesota (its cold here in December). I layered 2 other midweight FL shirts underneath and had this before my jacket and bibs during rifle season in the mid teens to low 20s and was perfect. Its surprisingly thick. The interior is really soft. I dont usually like 1/4 zips, but this piece is comfortable and zippers dont get in the way.

How it fits
It seemed to run a bit big, but i may have just ordered a size too big. All my other FL shirts have been 2 XL and fit comfortably, as this one has been but seemed a smidge too big. But for deer stand hunting, bigger is better than too tight

Very warm and comfortable 11/19/2018

I used the both the top and bottom Furnace as a second layer during archery this fall. I love the stretch they have for ease of movement, I never felt restricted while drawing my bow, hiking in or using my climbing sticks. They provided enough warmth with my lightweight early season gear into the lower 50's during long sits in the stand.

How it fits
When purchasing the furnace top I had not planned on using the thumbhole, but I ended up loving them. The top is so unrestrictive and stretchy i would forget I even had my thumbs through them.

fantastic piece 11/15/2018

Love this layer. The name furnace defiantly holds true, not sure if i could get cold with this on. This piece under the grid fleece with a wind breaker is awesome. I have sat in single digit temps snug as a bug with that set up.

Great fit, very warm and layers perfect under my Cirrus also in size medium 11/2/2018

The Furnace fits excellent over my next to skin layer and also fits under my Cirrus. I will be using it as a mid layer to stand hunt in NE Washington State during late season archery where I've hunted in temps down to -13F. It is considerably warmer than my previous gear so I look forward to how it will preform. I will also be using it as an outer layer in the milder seasons. It is dead quiet too! I would recommend the Henley if you intend to use it mostly for layering due to it not having a collar. I got the 1/4 zip so I could get more use out of it.

How it fits
Fit me perfect, no extra bulk! I have a 72" arm span and the sleeves are perfect with or without the thumb hole in use.

Man this thing is Awesome 11/2/2018

This has definitely been the missing piece to my kit! I always run cool and was looking for some heavy merino to layer on those cold tree stand November sits. This piece is much much heavier than any other merino piece i own from first lite. It is so comfortable to. If you get cold on sits, just do yourself a favor and buy this.

How it fits
A little baggy but that makes it perfect for layering. Also really enjoy the thumb loops on this.

Keeps your heat in 11/1/2018

This is the best warm layer I have ever had. It is perfect under the catalyst system for temps between 35-45 degrees. Below 35 degrees I wear the Furnace set under my sanctuary set for tree stand hunting in NY. I plan on buying another furnace set for winter skiing this year. Best base layer, it provides so much warmth and allows me to remain comfortable and warm on long tree stand sits.

How it fits
For my size this is form fitting but what I was looking for a next to skin layer.

Decent 10/9/2018

I used this recently for antelope hunting in 40 degree weather. I also slept in it using a 20 degree bag in 30 degree temps. I was mostly happy with it. The fit was very comfortable. I would say that for it being called a furnace I was hoping for it to be warmer. In 40-50 degree weather I could wear it while stalking antelope for several miles without overheating. That means it will probably not be a warm enough base layer for my December tree stand hunting later on. It didn't stink after 3 days of use, which is consistent and a a huge benefit of FL merino.

How it fits
I can go either medium or large in first lite tops, which can be frustrating. These I first bought in large, and exchanged for the medium and it fits well.

Awesome shirt! 9/10/2018

I just got back from a 6 day archer Elk hunt in CO. Although the weather was too warm during the day to wear this shirt, I did wear it every night around camp and to sleep in as the temps dropped down into the upper 30's at night. It kept me warm and comfortable every night!!

Great stuff 9/8/2018

The quality is great on this piece! I ordered both the shirt and pants for the Furnace. The only issue I had was with sizing. I fall between the large and medium with my size slightly leaning to large. Both pieces were a somewhat baggy and not a next to skin fit like I would prefer for a baselayer. These items would fit perfect for me if I were using the as a mid or outer layer

How it fits
If you want a next to skin fit look into sizing down

Super warm and comfortable 8/30/2018

I run cool when I'm not on the move and I've been looking for a thick merino shirt like the Furnace for a long time. It's super warm and comfortable and I'm sure it will be durable too(well...for merino) . It's nice and thick - about like your average sweatshirt. You won't catch me wearing this shirt on the uphill climbs but I'll be throwing it on as soon I get to the top of the ridge! I'm looking forward to having it on hand this mid-late season.

How it fits
I seem to be right between Medium and Large in the new FL sizing and the Large that I bought was a tad roomier than I prefer, so I washed it in cold water and then threw it in the drier it on the high (checking it every 5-10 minutes) and shrunk it about 1/2 size. Now it fits perfectly (I have 40" chest, 36" arms).

The missing link! 8/29/2018

This is the piece that has been missing from my kit. A perfect outer layer on cool dry days and a mid layer for cold hunts where long sits are required. The brushed lofted fleeced merino wool is super soft, quiet l, and comfortable. I can see this piece working for me late Oct through Dec. in the deer stand and duck blind.

How it fits
Fit is athletic but room to wear a baselayer under. The arms are not baggy which make it great for wearing under a soft shell.

Layers over lightweight baselayers perfectly 8/29/2018

These are truly heavy weight merino garments. Much, much thicker than any other piece of merino i've ever owned. The interior is lofted, while the exterior has the smooth knit face known for merino. I tried these on in my 74F house and they were very, very warm. I expect these to be great late season pieces and am very impressed with the weight. They layer over my fuse baselayers perfectly.

How it fits
Runs slightly baggier than the lightweight baselayers so that you can layer on top of them. Size down if you want next-to-skin feel.

warm shirt 8/29/2018

This will be a great late season shirt for hunting or a nice fall outer layer for lifestyle. It feels thick like a jacket. The 150 feels like a tshirt, the 200 feels about double the 150 and this 350 feels double the 200 if not more. It is warm and under a jacket will be the ticket for late season hunting.

How it fits
I normally wear an xl (47" chest) but this one is right on the border. It is not tight but if it shrinks any it will be tight. I would suggest if you normally wear an xl to go up to the 2xl. I did it in the 150 and 200 and the fit is great.

Hands down...my favorite clothing item 8/29/2018

First, the new gear fits better, and feels more structured. Not just on this item, but I've purchased several of the new tops, and they all fit better and hold their shape better. I run on the cold side, so this piece has replaced the chama in my kit. Honestly...this product is just about perfect. With the new wick LS, the Furnace, and the Uncompagrhe...i'm set for backpacking and Elk in Utah and Idaho.

How it fits
My chama hoodie body tended to flare out at the bottom, making it a bit saggy by the end of a hunt or backpacking trip. The new tops keep their shape perfectly. Length and girth are perfect in the body...sleeves are long, but I'm short and everything fits like that.

Versatile, Warm, Indispensable 8/29/2018

I became a devout fan of First Lite merino wool in heavier weight fabric after I found myself hunting in mountains of South Africa in the snow. I thought I'd have a warm hunt, but was surprised by the change in weather when hunting vaal reedbuck and klipspringer. Thankfully I had some heavy First Lite merino over a thin First Lite merino base layer. It kept me comfortable during the strenuous climbing. And more importantly, it still kept me warm during periods of rest despite being sweat drenched.

How it fits
I order base layers in the appropriate size, but upsize for the next layer, because I prefer a little room with the second layer.

New Favorite Cold Weather Merino Layer 8/29/2018

Was looking for something to use for the late season hunts and found it with the Furnace line. Layering up to this is gonna give you all the warmth you need for the coldest days. Also could see putting this on when the sun starts to set and it gets cool as the season progresses.

How it fits
I usually add a handful of First Lite pieces each year and this seems the truest to size I’ve had yet.

Very warm, wish it was longer in torso 8/27/2018

Not field tested, but tried them on in my 72F air conditioned home and knew right away the furnace garments are going to be late season beasts. Truly heavyweight baselayers and very warm for the short amount of time I did wear them.

My one gripe is that, while the sleeve length is awesome, the torso length is not. My wife actually commented she thought it looked short on me. As such i'm a little nervous i'll be forever tucking this shirt in when wearing pants.

An extra inch or two for the length of the torso and this would be a home run.

An extra inch or two in the torso length would be great. Make a longer cut, please!

They Named it Furnace for a Reason 7/26/2018

I purchased the Black and Conifer colors. I like the idea of having outdoor clothing colors that I can wear for multiple tasks, including work and casual. I have several Merino Wool garments from several brand names. Merino fabric is my all time favorite for a variety of reasons. Mostly for warmth, moisture wicking and no stink fabric. This is definitely my favorite. I really like the fit and sizing, chest pocket, high neck collar and great zipper pulls. The older FL zippers with the little metal "thingie" was hard to grab hold of. This zipper and pull are much better. FL also greatly improved on sizing and fit. This garment is not baggy at all. The Conifer color is my favorite, however, I have other FL garments in Fusion, ASAT and Cipher. I am a loyal fan and will continue to Ride with this Brand.

How it fits
I am 6',4", 225-230#, 40" waist and 37/38 sleeve length. Size XXL fits me perfectly in garment length, chest, shoulders and sleeve length.

Highly Impressed 7/16/2018

I have an extremely heavy wool-mix pullover that I love, but it's too bulky for archery later in the season. I spent 2 months searching for a heavier-weight wool jacket without the bulk and the EXP 350 fits the bill. I expect this will be perfect as outwear for most of the PA archery season and a solid warming layer post-Christmas. Additionally, my military background gives me specific opinions on camouflage pattern, and I'm highly impressed with Fusion both in terms of color pallete and ability to break up the human form. I can't wait for the fall to put this to the test from VA to northern PA to western OK.

How it fits
I'm a 42 short jacket. Most mediums tend to be too small in the chest and shoulders and too long in the sleeves. The EXP 350 fits well across my chest and shoulders. The sleeves are still a little long, but I'm used to it by now.

My new favorite layering piece! 7/9/2018

The Furnace 1/4 zip is probably going to be one of my most utilized pieces while hunting. I hunt in the Midwest and can see this piece in early fall with a lightweight piece underneath it and a vest over the top while tree stand hunting. It will also be a key piece while layering in late season to help fight below freezing temps. The collar is a good height and while fully zipped didn't seem to have the annoying "poke me in the throat" that some tops do. The mix in of spandex takes away from the "boxy" feel of insulating pieces and allows the top to stay close to your body.

How it fits
The fit on the Furnace 1/4 zip is great for me. I wear a 42" suit coat and dress shirts with 34/35" long sleeves for comparison. The length of the top is just right and doesn't feel like a dress if you prefer to not tuck it in.
