Men's Furnace Long John
EXP 350 Merino-X

Whether you pulled a late-season elk hunt or are down to the closing bell in the treestand, First Lite's Furnace Long John is the perfect tool to help you punch that tag in cold weather. Using our Merino-X 350g EXP weight fabric, the Furnace Long John provides lofted insulation and protection from the coldest temperatures. Featuring flatlock seams, a brushed, jacquard waistband and an articulated fit, the Furnace Long John leverages the loft, structure and stretch of our Merino-X fabric to provide the ideal layering piece over our other lightweight, next-to-skin styles. This system is the new standard for stationary hunts or late season stalks when staying warm is critical to success.

Our Furnace EXP 350 Merino-X fabric incorporates a brushed (or fleeced) backside to our high loft, interlock knits to provide super-charged insulation without added weight. Adding this to the silent, odor-free benefits of merino wool, the Furnace merino is the hands-down choice for cold weather hunts.

The Furnace EXP 350 is also available in Henley and Quarter Zip Tops.

Best base layer pants I've ever worn. All the guys I hunt with got a pair after I talked them up. Warm, Lightweight, no smell, and comfortable through all types of movement. From tree stand hunting to stalking.

Best cold weather layering piece! 12/3/2018

I have tried a few other cold gear long John brands and nothing compares to this. I wear this as a base layer and wear the guide pants over them on the way to my stand in frigid temps. Very breathable so I don't overheat while walking but a toasty layer under an outer shell for tree stand hunting

These things are amazing! They have the feel of a pair of fleece sweat pants but they’re light weight, super warm and breathe extremely well. I’ve wore these next to skin with the Furnace Henley in temps ranging from the mid 20’s to low 50’s under my North Branch pants and I couldn’t be more satisfied with them. I like my base layers to fit snug. I’m 6’00 185 and the Mediums fit perfectly.

Like ‘em 11/27/2018

I hesitated to get smalls, but am glad I did. Mediums would have been too loose with my skinny legs & butt. Wore them under insulated pants in cold and wind, and under waxed cotton in cold and rain. They will also make good under-wader pants when the water is not too cold. They are warmer than another outfitter’s “expedition weight.” Very happy with purchase.
If you made a heavier “Blast Furnace” I’d get them too.

Excellent cold weather base. 11/21/2018

Bought the long johns in October in preparation for November deer season. Bought them to pair up with the quarter zip shirt. The temperatures were below zero every day I was out, but I was very warm with this as my base. I have never been warmer than I have been this year. Perfect for cold November sits in Alberta.
Perfect fit for me, not too baggy and not too tight. Moves well with your body and no seams sitting in any unpleasant areas. I have overly hairy legs and these are the first long johns I have ever owned that do not pull the hair during extended wear time. Very soft comfortable merino fabric. These also have a lower sitting waste than most other long johns, which is quite nice. I do not like it when the elastic sits over your belly button.

How it fits
Fit is true to size and very comfortable. Not constricting in any way and have the ability to fit over a larger calf muscle without stretching themselves out.

Very warm and comfortable 11/19/2018

Nice and warm during my archery hunt this fall. I was most impressed by how comfortable and unrestrictive they were while crouching and using my climbing sticks. If you use these as a base layer under your normal hunting pants you should be comfortable into the low 50's or if theres no wind the 40's while sitting in your stand.

Toasty 11/15/2018

A must have base layer for mid/late season hunting in Southern Ontario. They fit snug but not too tight and don't slide down with bending or squatting or ride up. Comfy for wearing all day, everyday on multi-day hunts.

How it fits
They fit great for the most part but almost feel like they should come up a little higher on the waistline.

I know what I’ll have on in mid 20’s

How it fits

Crucial Layer for any late season activity 11/8/2018

The brushed interior is very soft and comfortable. Kept me exceptionally warm and dry on mid-late season (midwest) backcountry hikes and stationary hunts (30-50F with thin outerlayer). However, I think the best testament to their wicking and warmth maintenance ability is their performance under breathable waders. Early November Lake Erie steelheading in 30-50F in wind/rain and going from working hard to get down to a hold and then standing in cold water for hours. Got a bit clammy but not to a point where it brought a chill after staying still. Wore a thin synthetic layer next to skin.

How it fits
Snug enough to wear alone (and certainly comfortable enough) and able to put a next to skin synthetic layer under. I wear a 34" inseam and a Medium has plenty of length.

Another home run by First Lite 10/28/2018

Ive been waiting for a heavy base layer to come from First Lite for a while and the Furnace 350 does not disappoint. The new Merino-X feels a lot alike the original merino from First Lite but it has a bit of a stretch and you can absolutely feel that its much more durable. The inside of the Furnace feels like the inside of your favorite sweatshirt making it easy to wear next to skin. Overall the furnace is an 11 out of 10. I can't wait to buy more patterns.

Very warm! 10/1/2018

We just got back from a caribou hunt in the Alaska tundra. Temps varied greatly, but I used these pants a ton. They are very warm, comfortable and cut true to size. I wore these and a pair of guide pants down to the mid teens and was plenty warm.

How it fits
They fit perfect and true to size. I am a medium in all First lite. Fir reference I am 5’8” with a 30” inseam and 33” waist

Great bottoms! 9/10/2018

I just got back from a 6 day archer Elk hunt in CO. Although the weather was too warm during the day to wear these pants, I did wear them every night around camp and to sleep in as the temps dropped down into the upper 30's at night. It kept me warm and comfortable every night!!

Crazy soft and super warm 8/31/2018

No doubt that these are going to be crazy warm while sitting on my tree stand in late season. Only negative about them is that they are likely too warm for anything other than sitting on a stand in super cold weather.

The "Big Guns" of Merino Bottoms 8/30/2018

If you're wondering how thick/lofty these are, as I was, imagine wearing stretchy skin-tight merino sweatpants. Fit and finish are excellent. I know First Lite regards these as more of a mid-layer, but they are SOFT and I would not hesitate to wear them as a baselayer if it fit the situation. They add a lot of heat, but are not cumbersome. These will be mandatory for me in freezing temps with either snow or moist air, thought I would limit how much walking I do in them.

How it fits
True to size for a large.

best Long John pant 8/30/2018

never have i had a pair of LJ pants that fit the way these do. for my height and weight i was worried about the L size as i didn't think they would be tall enough for me. The easily stretch to my angles and could easily stretch more so it isn't straining the material. These truly are a furnace base layer. Will be perfect for the cold cold days.

Layers over lightweight baselayers perfectly 8/29/2018

These are truly heavy weight merino garments. Much, much thicker than any other piece of merino i've ever owned. The interior is lofted, while the exterior has the smooth face known for merino. I tried these on in my 74F house and they were very, very warm. I expect these to be great late season pieces and am impressed with the weight. These layer over my fuse baselayers perfectly.

How it fits
These run slightly baggy to layer on top of lighter weight baselayers. Size down if you want a next-to-skin feel.

Very Happy! 7/30/2018

I’m very excited to use these late season this year. The interior fleece feels so good I can already tell they are going to be a furnace on those cold rifle days.
Great name for them.

How it fits
A tad longer than expected when first put them on but not a huge issue I believe.
