Men's Catalyst Softshell Pant
2 Layer Silent Softshell

From the treestand to the tundra, the Men's Catalyst Softshell Pant changes the paradigm of technical hunting softshell pants. Silent, breathable, insulating, and engineered to stretch and move with you, the Catalyst changes what is possible in a softshell pant. The revolutionary, 2-layer construction creates a jacket that is warm and breathable while also being lightweight and completely silent.

Interior 37.5 fleece lining works to optimize your body temperature while the brushed, durable exterior is ultra-silent while fending off moisture through our advanced DWR.

The result is an ultra-versatile pant that performs as well in the stand as it does in the backcountry. Whether you are looking for silent warmth sitting for whitetails during the rut or hoofing it through knee-deep snow on the trail of late season elk, the Catalyst softshell system will help you get it done.

The Catalyst is also available in a Men's Jacket.

Quiet and comfortable 9/26/2018

Pants are very comfortable. Have just enough stretch in them without feeling loose. Like the multiple slash pockets on the legs, each side has a zipper pocket and a pocket covered by a flap. Haven't gotten these out in the field yet, but they feel like an all-around weather pant - would be worried about getting too hot rather than too cold. Recommendations would be to have a slot for knee pads and a small boot zipper.

How it fits
Originally ordered in XL but they felt a bit tight in the waist and thigh, was worried how they might feel with a layer underneath. Exchanged for XXL and the fit is perfect.

Excellent pant 9/19/2018

These pants perform extremely well. The lining wicks away the sweat to reduce that clammy feeling after a hard walk. Super quiet and comfortable. I usually don't purchase lined pants but these are an exception to my rule. Great mid to late season pant.

How it fits
These pants are a slimmer fit than the corrugated guide pant. If your 5'8-5'10 and weigh in the 200+ Id recommend the large size pant.

Highly comfortable 9/14/2018

I have only worn these pants while scouting but I will say they are highly comfortable. For the rather thin material these pants are warm. I look forward to giving these pants the ultimate test this fall.

How it fits
I am 6’0”, 188 lbs. Pants fit well. I wish they were maybe 1” longer inseam. I am a 34” inseam. I don’t see the length being a problem because of the supplied suspenders.

Excellent Pant 9/10/2018

They aren't lying a single bit about the functionality of the pant in terms of the material used. I just took mine out for a scouting trip that involved a lot of hiking. Temperature sat around 58-59 degrees with a decently strong breeze. They kept me warm when I sat and glassed, I was a bit too toasty while hiking but the pants wicked away any moisture I generated and prevented me from getting cold once I sat down again. These pants are also extremely quiet and allow for a wide range of motion! I highly recommend these pants!

How it fits
Waist was a little tight (My waist is a 34) and the length was a little long. Doesn't take away from the overall comfortability, just means I need to lose some weight!

Used these for Turkey season, opening morning it was right at freezing put one layer under them did alright I was in a blind to. But for comfort let me say when they designed these things they got it right, you can bend over squat and they like stretch but there not stretch pants there tuff, they will be my early deer season pants.

Great Pants, Very Quiet 8/30/2018

Just like the Catalyst Jacket, I was able to get these pants out during a recent cold front. The temperature was 45 when I left the truck. These things were the perfect weight for that temperature. Also, it was drizzling a bit and they performed well. Very quiet, very comfortable, well thought out features (pockets, suspender loops, etc.). We're back in the 80's now; but, I can't wait to get these back in the field once it cools off again.

Great durable mid/late season pant 8/30/2018

These pants are really comphy. They have enough insulation to keep you warm in the mid/late season and feel like they will be durable. Haven’t snagged them on anything or been rough with them yet but the material feels like it will hold up. Pocket layout is good and usable.

Hey, nice pants. 8/30/2018

These are high quality softshell bottoms, though they don't stand out quite as much as the jacket does. They are durable, super lightweight, flexible, very quiet, and have awesome DWR. The pockets are a pretty cool design, and the included suspenders work well.

I have two gripes, however, but they're pretty personal. First, they fit a little tighter than the jacket of the same size, so depending on the weather you may have an issue with balancing your top and bottom base/mid layers. This leads into my second gripe, which is the lack of any leg zips. First Lite is trying to save weight, which I understand, and they probably figure you have to take your boots off anyways in order to shed mid layers so why bother. However, with the pants on the more fitted side I've found it more difficult that I would like to get the Catalyst pants on without them tugging up my base and mid layers. I think a knee-high zip would more than alleviate this issue.

If I had my druthers, I would make the pants a hair bigger, give them knee-high zips, and perhaps add durable waterproof nylon knee panels for making camp and crawling.

How it fits
On a proportionally-sized person, the large Catalyst pants leave less room for layering underneath than the large Catalyst jacket does. I wear size 36 jeans and the large fits well by themselves, but with an Aerowool base layer and a Furnace mid layer, for example, they are a tight fit.

Quality and comfort meet function. 8/29/2018

These pants are awesome. Almost like a beefed up guide pant. Very comfortable and not very loud so you can get away with treestand and spot & stalk.
Large size fit well with the Allegheny underneath. I wear a 36/32 pant. Waist and length were spot on.
Can't speak to durability as they are new, but they seem solid enough in the few hours I've spent in them. Dwr does its job and it's not hateful with the wind, but if it's overly windy I throw my rain gear on to stop it. It'll get you by in normal to slightly windy conditions. Overall I think these are a home run.

Skeptical of warmth, missing some features 8/29/2018

These are very well made pants, but I am skeptical of their warmth for stationary whitetail hunting activities such as hunting from a treestand. The material is much thinner than expected, and the fleece lined interior is only lightly lined - only slightly heavier than the obsidian pants. I expect I will have to add a puffy layer or additional baselayers when weather gets below 50F if I want to wear these pants. While I knew they didn't come with leg zippers, I find myself missing them from a previous set of softshell pants I owned. Also inner-thigh zippers are nice to have during high exertion acitivities. I can only hope these breath exceptionally well. Lastly the taper in the leg will make it all but impossible to put the leg over bulky rubber or insulated boots.

How it fits
These run very true to size and have an athletic cut. I am a 40W in plainclothes and while I can wear them with a single pair of underwear, any additional layering and they are too tight. The length however is perfect for me.

You need these pants! 8/29/2018

Short version: get these pants! Just the right insulation for an early season hunt and feel like they will be great in the mid to late season over a base layer.
Long version: Took these out on an Elk scout in the Canadian Rocky Mountains last week getting ready for opening day of Bow Season. First impressions they fit really well and are very comfortable for all day hiking. I’m 5’11” 190lbs (a bit stocky). Hiked two ridges and kept moving all day without sweating (weather was about 10 degrees Celsius) had a bit of light rain and lots of dew covered brush. Water wicked right off. Stayed warm and dry without a base layer underneath (got a bit warm when really pushing to the summit, but that’s to be expected with the warm-ish temp). The fit would definitely cover a skin tight base layer without any restriction. If you run a looser fitting base layer, and you have a stocky build, you might want to go up a size but it wouldn’t be critical. I wore these pants with the Kiln hoody and nothing under the hoody. These two items were enough to feel perfectly warm and dry all day while moving and I put the Catalyst soft shell jacket on while glassing on a ridge that had some pretty good wind in our face.

How it fits
I’m 5’11 and 190 a bit stocky and the large fits great. Could easily fit a snug fitting base layer underneath with a little room to spare so any moisture can evaporate. A looser fitting base layer might feel a little bulky under these pants.

very nice pants 8/29/2018

This is a great feeling pair of pants. The material is very soft and quiet. I am not a huge fan of the zippered pockets but its certainly not a deal breaker for me. The legs are more of an athletic fit and are somewhat tapered. I like the look when wearing these. They should fit nicely in tall hunting boots.

How it fits
I wear a 36-38 pants and the large is right on the border. If you normally wear this size consider going up to the xl in this pant.

Exceeded Expectations 8/29/2018

I was very skeptical to wear any kind of soft shell material as a whitetail hunter from MS, but I was tired of the bulky/heavy options that provide the wind relief I need so I decided to tried these pants out. The few times in my life I have tried soft shell material out, the smallest movements were amplified for all wildlife to hear. After getting the Catalyst pants in, I was blown away by their lack of noise and friction while moving and sitting. I can’t wait to get these bad boys in the woods and put them to the test! Keep up the great work guys!

Catalyst pants size large 8/28/2018

I puchased these pants as soon as they came out. I have been wearing them under various conditions in Maine for a few months now. My major concern was would they be as quiet as advertised - they are! For a soft shell to be this quiet walking through brush and moving I was very surprised. I also am impressed with the durability of the fabric. I have crawled on the ground, walked through thorns, and walked through dense forest without a single blemish. The temperature range varies with these because you can always layer, so with a good base layer I would say you would be comfortable in the lower 20s Farenheight. And without a base layer range would be 30-60. They are a warm pant so don’t expect to use them when it’s hot out.

Exactly What I Wanted 8/28/2018

I’m an Eastern whitetail hunter and I’m going on my first western hunt this October in Colorado. I literally shopped for months to find the right gear that would be durable, warm, and flexible enough to spend hours hunting/hiking in the back country. I looked at all the other competitors (Kuiu, Sitka) but the features and price point on the First Lite Catalyst pants set them apart. They have all the features I want without breaking the bank. I used this to scout for archery opener last month. The entire weekend was 90 degrees. It held up pretty well up until 11 pm then I started to get warm. This pant is an absolute home run! Perfect for the “spot and stalk” hunt or treestand. Pants are extremely comfortable and non-restrictive “yoga proof.” The fleece lining provides excellent warmth and works well with the outer soft shell to block wind effectively. Awesome 8/18/2018

Just got back from a 2 week early August archery Caribou hunt in Northern Alaska. These pants were my primary set, paired with gaiters for tromping through the soggy tundra. While a more waterproof pant may have kept me a little drier, these were ultimately comfortable and dried out very quickly. Very durable and kept the stink down over the two weeks without a wash. They were warm, yet breathable. They've earned a place in my primary lineup for just about every hunt. Awesome pants!

Best.Pants.Ever. 8/12/2018

So I have a favorite pair of pants that I have owned for about 8 years. They were one of those multi-purpose pairs that you could wear to go fishing, for a hike, or to a decent restaurant when paired up with a polo or button-down.

I put these new Catalyst pants on, checked them out in the mirror a bit, did some squats to test the fit and stretch, and then I walked over to my closet to find my favorite pants, picked them up, walked to my kitchen sink, and then stuffed them down the garbage disposal. You may think i'm joking, but if pictures were allowed on reviews (get on it Kenton) I'd prove you doubters wrong.

These are by far, the best pants I have ever owned. They fit like a dream, are next to silent, beyond comfortable and I have full confidence in their technical abilities. I half-expected one day to find them draped around my vacuum cleaner handle, or draped in the kitchen sink, haphazardly doing dishes, as a set of limbless pants only can.

The first weekend that I had them, I went on a 6 mile hike here in Montana, in a temperature range of mid-upper 70's, and not ONCE did I actually notice perspiration forming on my legs. It was the type of weather where if i'd been wearing jeans, or thicker khakis I would've felt clammy about 10 minutes in, and it would have only gotten worse over time. It's odd, but I truly felt like my legs were right on the brink of getting sweaty/clammy, but that sensation never truly developed. Even if it had, I wouldn't have been disappointed, as these are 2 layer softshell pants with a fleece inner layer, but I was truly stunned at their breathability. The only test remaining is how they'll feel in colder weather, but I'm confident they'll be just as impressive in the Fall, and into Winter with the right layers of course.

If anything, I feel like these pants represent, or are indicative of where First Lite is as a company now. Earlier products and iterations were nice, and just as good as any other technical hunting wear, but with this current/new generation of pieces, they've surpassed what other companies are doing and there are no "oh but if only it fit better" or "if only it were quieter" comments that can be made. These pants fit very well, seem bombproof, are fantastic for moving around, keep you comfortable and look good while doing it. As the door gunner from 'Full Metal Jacket' said - "Get some! Yeah yeah yeah!"

How it fits
I love how trim/tailored these pants fit me. I hate when pants are too baggy as that's a. excess material/weight and b. higher potential of rubbing/swishing/sound and most importantly c. not stylish (got to look good in the hunting woods).

These pants fit me great, I wouldn't change anything. I'm roughly a 31" waist and the pants are snug but not uncomfortable at all. I'm 5'9 with normal inseam (about 31") and the length is perfect, they hit the middle-bottom of my boots and don't pull up when I kneel.

Truly silent, but very thin 7/29/2018

The Catalyst Softshell Pants are truly silent outerwear pants. I got them in Cipher and the pattern works great for breaking up my outline in the trees. My only concern is the material holding up for more than one season. The brush and briars poke right through the thin material and I see a bunch of snags turning into tears.

Great pants 7/28/2018

I love the catalyst system! These pants are warm yet breathable and very quiet in the field. I frequent burr rich environments and they have held up amazingly!

How it fits
The fit may be a bit snug. I ordered a size bigger than i normally would and they fit nicely. I'm 6 foot 230lbs and the XL fits nicely.

Perfect mid to late season pant 7/28/2018

These pants will be the perfect pant for stand sits when the weather is nasty and cold. The fleece inside is very comfortable against skin and will add more warmth when a base layer is underneath. I am really looking forward to wearing these during duck hunting season also.

Nickname: Sycamore the fit is great except for the front pockets are a little tight when unzipped. These are a more athletic cut than the

Amazing warmth 7/25/2018

My favorite and go to pant for mid to late season hunts, especially for the cold cool, crips mornings! The catalyst system is the exact system for western hunting high country hunting.

Good fit, quiet, non restricting 7/25/2018

Great fitting pant. Can't wait to try these out for deer season! Nice to find a good hunting pant in something other than realtree camo.

How it fits
6'1 and wear a 34 waist and the large fits well. Not too loose but still has room for a base layer.

Quite and comfortable 7/22/2018

My first pair of first lite pants ,didn’t know what to expect on how it would feel sound and actually work out on the field . When I went out for some white tail and the temperature here in Canada was around 11 degrees Celsius , with a little precipitation, the pants made my hunt comfortable and worrie free about if my legs would get cold or damp. These pants are recommended buy in my opinion, first lite really brought it to the table for everything that a hunter could ask for .

Good pair of paints 7/14/2018

I wanna give these pants a 5 star review but the pants legs feel like im wearing skinny jeans. but I believe this is due to my athletic build but I think this my not be a problem down the road when I'm not doing stationary stand hunting. I will right another review come winter to let you guys know how these pants performed during winter in Georgia. The pants feel really well made an they feel really warm so far. But due to the tight fit in the leg area I'm gonna find it hard to layer up for winter. But then again from what I've so far from how warm these pants are I may not even need layering

Quiet and comfortable 7/14/2018

While I havent had the chance to hunt in these yet, they are very quiet and comfortable. The quietest soft shells that I have ever tried. The fit is perfect and they are cut for complete freedom of movement for hiking or climbing. They would also work equally good for treestand hunting. Very impressed with them!

Great all around softshell pant! 7/9/2018

I haven't been able to put these pants through the "ringer" yet but wanted to give a review on the construction and fit of the pant. I've owned other manufacturers soft shell pants and these are by far the quietest I have had on. Definitely quieter than the North Branch pants were. The construction looks and feels great with quality zippers and well sewn seams. The DWR coating is the real deal as well- I ran the pants under a faucet for 1 minute and no signs of wetness inside the pant. They aren't rain gear but they will definitely get you through an unexpected shower. As far as the warmth of the pant I would give them a comfort range of 32-55 degrees for me. Obviously, layering as it gets colder would be needed but the fleece lining has a good weight to make it a usable pant through a variety of climates.

How it fits
I wear a 34/36' waist (depending on the brand) and have a 32' inseam. These pants in a large are just about perfect for me. I was always between a M and L in First Lite pants and with the new sizing the larges are definitely the right choice for me. Plenty of room for layering and not too big with a belt or suspenders while wearing alone. The length is a touch long, but with no zippers on the bottom this doesn't bother me.
