This is a great warm weather piece. It fits to size, i usually wear a L in T shirts and the L in the Wick is perfect. Used it during archery season in California and performed flawlessly. Planning on using it in South Africa for the season and it should be perfect for the warmer African weather. The Cipher camo is perfect for the African bush, everyone that has seen it in SOuth Africa has commented on the versatility of the pattern. The Wick seems to be sturdier than the previous iterations of FirstLite lightweight base layers and i'm expecting to get great service out of this piece
This shirt is easily my most used, favorite FL piece. It wicks sweat very well, and if you hunt in hot conditions like I do in Georgia, the zip is a must. I bike into my spots and its great to just zip the shirt wide open to let the air in. I can normally get 3-4 sits in before I have to wash it, as it repels odor great from its merino fabric. Not much else to tell, the Large fits me perfectly.
How it fits
Large is a perfect fit for me.
I'm a large in all of the shirts that I wear, but this shirt was super baggy on me. I didn't have enough time to exchange it before my hunt, so I'm hoping that it shrinks when I wash it.
The Aerowool is a great product, and didn't stink after 4 days of 8-12 hours of hiking.
The zipper goes nice and low, so you can really vent heat well with it.
How it fits
Runs large, size down
I wore this to hike in and sleep in for 3 days straight. Kept me cool during upper 70s and warm in my sleeping bag in the 20s. The zip makes a great way to shed extra heat while hiking with a pack on.
I ordered this piece for my OTC Elk hunt for the middle of September. It was hot this year. I was able to dump heat using the quarter zipper when accenting. I wore this through a range of temperatures; cool mornings in the mid 40's up to the high 80's and I was always comfortable. We stayed out for 7 days and there was no odor on the shirt. The durability seems to be a little better with the new wick series as well. This a great base layer for any kit.
How it fits
fit as perfect.
I recently used this for a 6 day western mountain hunt in Idaho. I loved how this piece was perfect when the weather got up in the 80s, and when the temps were in the 40-50s, I added the Kiln as a secondary layer, and it was the perfect comboination for spot and stalk. I wore this piece 4 of the 6 days, and it did a great job keeping any sweat smells from forming. I'll also be using this as my go to layer for my early season whitetail hunts in NC.
How it fits
Fit was true to size
I just got back from 6 days in the back country of Colorado on a archery Elk hunt. I wore this shirt every day. I loved the fit. Most days this was the only shirt I wore - even into the night on the trek back to camp. If I had any complaints it would be that when wet or after several days of wear and sweat - it did start to have a sour smell...but I suppose all garments would after what I put it through! I only wish I would have purchased one or two more for my trip.
How it fits
Perfect - very comfortable!
Just tested this piece out on a 4 day hunt in Idaho with temps from 70 to 82. I am blown away. Kept me cool, dries extremely fast, and kept odor away. I've had problems with merino smelling in the past even from the top companies, and even the lightest thicknesses are too warm for warm weather. This piece is better in every way.
How it fits
I'm 6'0" and a lean 190. A large fits near perfect.
This one is delight on the skin and fits well. Its great to finally have some form fitting wool clothing that doesn't feel like roofing shingles on your skin. Well don sirs.
This shirt is very comfortable. Another great product from Firstlite.
I haven't had it very long, but it's quickly become my go to scouting base layer. It is warm enough for pre dawn summer hiking and dries super fast when you work up a sweat.
How it fits
Hits the sweet spot between relaxed and athletic fit.
This is a great first layer for the early season, later in the year I'll need to decide whether to wear it next to skin or over long johns but very pleased so far. I didn't see it on the pictures but was pleasantly surprised to see what I would call mesh in the armpit region, think additional breathability, not see through.
How it fits
I'm 6' 2", about 210 lbs with an athletic form, sleeves are usually too short and torsos are usually too wide and bulky...this thing fit like a glove. The sleeves come to mid hand and don't ride up at full bow draw, the body fits like a first layer should and the length is great as well.
First product so far I have not been fully satisfied with. First time out with this top hiked with my pack on and worked up a good sweat. Hung it up to dry and came back the next day to discover it stinks like body odor. My other shirts have been great about airing out and being good to go. Not this one. Great fit and kept me cool but not odor combatant.
Drys very quickly. Awesome to wear in place of a T shirt even on September hunts
How it fits
Long on the arm, money down to the waist.
Bought this base layer and it fits perfectly, wicks moisture fast, and keeps you warm when it's a bit chilly out and cool when it's hot out. I tend to run warm and sweated a lot and it didn't smell. Will keep buying these in the future.
This was my first purchase from Firstlite and I will definitely be purchasing more. I ordered the Wick Quarter Zip on a Wednesday eve, and by Saturday morning the package had arrived in time for the Oregon archery opener. Everything from the packaging, to the fit finish and performance of this garment have been top quality. I’ve been in temps from 85 down to 45 and been completely comfortable, busted through briars and branches and sticks, almost soaked from a river crossing and still absolutely the best performance. The only drawback I’ve found is that the sleeves are a bit too long, but that’s it. Thank you Firstlite for gettting this one right, and I’ll be budgeting accordingly for more!
How it fits
I ordered the small and measured according to the quide. Sleeves are a bit longer than I anticipated.
Got this for spring turkey and early bow,if you want something on that feels like you got nothing on then this is it,never really got hot enough to unzip all the way but what the heck,I did it’s nice now it says 1/4 but it go’s half but fine with me,and I’m digging the the thumb holes seems like it help some with taking on and off gloves,it will be the only piece I’ll have on come bow season cause it will be a 100 in the shade, can’t wait to try it.
How it fits
Fits just a little larger
I will not wear compression/athletic cut shirts. Finally found the right warm weather shirt
couldn't be happier! great for hot weather hunting or a base layer. Very comfortable and breathable. Gonna be wearing this everyday
How it fits
XL fits good, got some broad shoulders and was happy with the way the XL fit. I like a bit looser of a fit but nothing too baggy
Love this. Light and breathable. Can't beat that QZ when things start to heat up outside it really makes a huge difference.
How it fits
Fit was good.
This is my first piece from First Lite. I have shifted to a lot of what I wear to merino. I have purchased merino from other companies to try over the last few years. I really like the stuff. It's the way to go. They really do help me with temp regulation. From hunting, at work and everyday use. I can sweat lot and merino really helps with that keeping me dry. It's also kind of hard to explain but a merino top just seems to keep me just warm enough, without feeling hot and not chilly either. This Wick top I was eager to get my hands on. I just got it so my impressions are of just wearing it and not field use as of yet. Hunting season isn't quite here. What I can say as compared to other merino that I have tried, I really dig this shirt. I am excited to try it in different applications. It feels really good and the design features of it are nice. I like the versatility of the zip to vent. This will not be my only First Lite product for sure.
How it fits
I was concerned about the fit and what size to wear. I personally didn't want it clingy and not baggy either. I normally wear a L but sometimes how that will fit can go either way. So I was crossing my fingers. I was excited when I received it and put it on. It fits me damn near perfect. Just what I was hoping for. Enough length to tuck in and a nice fitted cut to the shirt. The sleeves are a bit on the long side for me. If you like to use the thumb holes you have plenty of length for that.
Just like the short sleeve version this shirt is an amazing hot weather base layer. It wicks moisture away from the skin extremely well, has great air flow and breaths well. The chest zipper helps vent and dump heat when you are really climbing hard. Even though it’s breaths super well it’s nice to have the ability to open the front up for those really hot days.
How it fits
Not skin tight. Fits close to the body but don’t expect a compression fit.
Love this shirt , I have 4 of them, I wear them for any occasion. Perfect layer or just by itself on early season hunts. Get your self one, your body will thank you.
I just received this product to use on my Sept 2018 Elk hunt. My only comment is on fit as I have yet to use this in the field. The fit is excellent, I torso length is perfect, long enough to stay tucked and the arm length is plenty long. Meaning it will not creep up when arms are extended. I am looking forward to wearing this a my next to skin layer this September. I will post another review after my trip.
How it fits
Long enough at the torso that it will stay tucked in. Sleeves have plenty of length that they will not creep up when arms are fully extended. Great job on the sizing.
I have not used in a hunting scenario yet, but in many outdoors situations. Best use case was a July camping trip. MN weather can be pretty unpredictable and this piece proved it's worth on a camping/canoe trip. It was mid-90's most the time but very buggy, so this piece helped keep bugs at bay while protecting from the sun. However, while on the water a storm front moved in, dropped the temp about 20 degrees and moved in wind. I was never uncomfortable and showed the versatility of the wool.
I've since used it on my morning bike rides, about 20 miles and it's done a good job taking the morning chill off while not overheating along the way. I have extreme confidence this piece is going to perform great when chasing Antelope, Mule Deer in SD and early-mid season stand hunting white tails in Northwest MN.
How it fits
Fit perfect to size as other Large First Lite pieces
For early season here in GA, I only use this as my top layer. It breaths well, drys quick! The materials used to make this product are extremely comfortable!
How it fits
Sleeves are longer than expected as well as the shirt tale. It wasn’t long into the first time putting this top on did I see why. I did a lot of movement in this shirt, squatting down, sitting, in and out of the truck never did I have to re-tuck my shirt in. As far as the sleeves they almost doubled as palm gloves. They extended perfectly to my knuckles with my thumbs in the associated holes, leaving my fingers exposed yet covering up a lot of exposed skin. Well thought out!
Perfect fit, wicks great, dries fast, very comfortable with a pack, easy to move in, and quiet. Very happy with this piece.
I love this top so much for September hunts. It fits just like a Large should. I have worn one too for a week straight and it had very little smell. It dries quick. It does fade out a bit and the pattern isn’t as bright as on nylon but I like that better anyhow.
Just got my new Wick in Cipher. I am 5'10/180 with a 42" chest and a medium fits perfectly. This will be a PERFECT base layer. Much of my big game hunting is in California, where our first archery opener is the second week of JULY! It's usually brutally hot, but many of our areas are over run with poison oak, so having long sleeves is almost a necessity. The wick will be perfect for this application. Protection from sun, bugs, and poison oak, but breathable and cool. I also plan on using this is a base layer under a Kiln for when the fall rifle seasons start up.
Pretty pleased with this product.
I already took this shirt out last weekend for archery elk and it was awesome. Kept me warm in the mornings and cool the rest of the day. I could adjust my comfort level with the zipper all day long depending on if I was in the shade or going straight up a hillside in the sun. On the second day I made a conscious effort to smell it before I put it on as well as throughout the day and like all First Lite merino it smelled just like wool.
How it fits
Arms are slightly long when not using the thumb hole option.
I thought a lot about what I call my second layer. I like to have wool short sleeve shirts next to skin as it covers your core and allows you to systematically layer on top of the base. Although this could also be a base I like this as my second layer as it adds additional warmth but also allows you to shed heat with the zip - critical for any effort based hunting. However, this could also be used next to skin if one wanted.
How it fits
The arms are slightly long in a medium for me normally I am a 32-33 in shirts. This does not distract from the overall fit.
The wick quarter zip was built for the hunter that is looking for a multi use base layer. I bought it for use in early season in the south east (the zippper will come in handy) as well as through mid to late season as the first layer in my system. The thumb holes are a bowhunters best friend.
How it fits
Amazing athletic fit that will not be baggie. Great for bow hunters!
I am super impressed with first light period. This was my first purchase and the customer service was outstanding. I called First Light to get information about there product. I pushed one number on the phone to connect to a department and a guy answered the phone right away. I explained I live in Texas and its usually hot during the first part of the hunting season. The guy I spoke with directed me towards this shirt. My next question I asked was how is the fight. I am a bigger guy 6 foot 285 lbs, I am pretty active and athletic, but I am not all muscle either. I am tired of high end hunting clothing being super tight in the shoulders, back, neck and arms. It is uncomfortable to even pull my bow back. The guy on the phone informed that there sizes are more true to size and they are, NO LIE. I can't wear sitka or under armour but First Light fits awesome. I can't wait to hunt in this and I am saving up my allowance my wife gives me for pants next. Awesome shirt totally worth the money.
Got this just before the spring bear season on Washington. Had it under the cirrus puffy. Worked great all day. Kept me warm and dry. Love first lite
Great next to skin layer under a jacket and surprisingly cool when worn solo on hot days on the trail. Wish I could afford two.
How it fits
Good length in the torso and arms, even for fairly tall frames
Great product that served me very well this year in Alaska. Fantastic base layer that kept me warm.
This is my first piece of firstlite clothing and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. I ordered an XL because thats what I normally wear and the fit is spot on. Not to loose but not to tight. The fabric feels amazing. Should make for a good early season top or mid season base layer here in the northeast. The thumb holes in the sleave are also a nice touch. The 1/4 zip feature will be nice for walking into the stand on a warmer than average afternoon. Can’t wait to get out there and test it out. I’ll try and update this review at the end of the season
This was my first piece of FL gear - although I've been drooling over their stuff for a while. I bought 2 of these (1 for me and 1 for the Mrs) for a spot & stalk antelope hunt. I was skeptical when I opened it up as it felt a little stiff and scratchy in hand. But when I put it on, it was comfortable. (And after the first wash, no more worries.) While the temps weren't blazing, the sun was on us constantly. Not only does this wick away sweat to keep you comfortable, it lets the breeze pass through to help keep you cool. It's light, airy and lets you stay covered from the sun and those prying 8X eyes. In the morning, when temps were in the high 40's to low 50's, it was a great first layer and we typically didn't shed a layer until 10:30 - or even lunch - because it kept us comfortable while we were chasing goats.
Awesome top. Regulates temperature better than anything else I have. You can't beat the combination of 37.5 and wool!
I love this shirt. Dries fast. Quarter zip vents heat well. I have been wearing it to archery hunt elk swapping off with the wick hoody. Great light weight wool.
These quarter zips are great! I have used them in everything from hunting to hanging out with friends on the weekends. I use them to layer with my Seak jackets. The wool regulates your body temperature in a great way. I have bought 5 to have in my hunting rotation.
How it fits
Fits true to size
As usual, First Lite does not disappoint. Haven't had it out in the hills yet as archery season has not opened yet here in Wyoming, but the quality is evident. The wool is soft with no weird wooly smell and it definitely doesn't itch. The shirt is really similar to the old llano shirt except it has rounded seams on the sleeves. I'm about 5'9" 180lbs with a fairly athletic build. I normally wear large tees so I ordered a large in this and it fits perfectly. The sleeves seem maybe a tad long, but that may change after a wash or two. I know i definitely wouldn't want it to fit any smaller in the shoulders and torso, therefore, a medium would be too small in my book. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with this shirt. I promise, once you go to a First Lite merino wool top, you'll never go back to a synthetic base layer again.
How it fits
Fits as expected in the shoulders and torso. A little long in the sleeves, but nothing that causes issues. May shrink a little after being washed.
No itchy feeling I normally get when I first put on a wool top. I'll be using this on for my eastern treestand hunting as well as my wester hunting base layer
Glad it fit perfect on the first order. I’m not a fan of sending things back so using the size chart and taking measurements, I was able to get The correct size. Thin and comfortable material that will work well to keep be protected from the sun and not over heated in the Southwest. Thanks for a great product.
Purchased this shirt for my early season antelope hunt in Idaho desert country. Very comfortable and this will be a great shirt for those hot days.
How it fits
Fit was a little big right out of the package but with a wash it should be perfect.
The Wick line of clothing from First Lite is perfect for the early season, or people who could sweat through seven t-shirts standing on the arctic tundra. These shirts provide the perfect amount of breath-ability and ventilation for when the temps are testing the mercury and you're considering fighting the elk for a spot in the wallow to cool off. If it's the early season I'm wearing one of these, they keep you cool, and dry quick. The material is thinner, so durability could be an issue if you make brush busting a daily habit.
I bought this product specifically for early season use. I wore the Wilkin 1/2 zip for everything from early goose season in MI to Elk hunting CO to bow hunting whitetail in PA / OH and everything in between. I picked this item up early spring and put it to the test in PA spring gobbler season. What a wonderful product. Perfect for use as a layering system in morning when it’s cold and great as a stand alone mid morning when it would start to warm up. I’ve now used it on several summer coyote hunts and scouting sessions. If you sweat like I do, this is the perfect item. Sometimes I find myself using Wick as a towel to dry myself up. Hang that bad boy up for a few mins and you have a dry top to put back on. The technology is amazing. Can’t wait to use it in a couple weeks in Colorado chasing elk through the San Juan’s
How it fits
Perfect fit
Great for hot weather scouting and early season. Gets hot and intense between SoCal and Texas and this is the perfect base/primary layer
How it fits
A bit large for me, probably should have got the medium. My fault (I didn't measure myself). Not big enough to return, probably just shrink it a bit in the dryer
I used this to scout for archery opener last month. The entire weekend was 90 degrees. It held up pretty well up until 11 pm but then I opened up the zipper and it cooled me down very fast. I really like how fast it dries, it never felt like the shirt was soaked or damp.
I have never enjoyed the feeling of wool against my skin, so I have stayed away from wool as a base layer for years. Times have changed! This is a very comfortable shirt and now its my go-to top this late summer for elk scouting and bear hunting where temperatures have been in the mid 80s. I have been very pleased with this purchase and have been kicking the idea around to order another for more of a "lifestyle" shirt. Get yourself one of these bad boys and you wont regret it.
This is another awesome piece by FL. I wore it during spring turkey, and it was perfect. The quarter zip is invaluable in my opinion. This layer breaths very well, but during the mid day heat it was great to have that extra air to cool off. I will be using it this fall for antelope and early deer season. It may get a little chilly in later September, so I will definitely be bring an extra layer for those early mornings/evening sits when the sun is down. Overall, I am very happy and impressed with this layer!
