If you are a fan of hunting with merino wool, these pants are for you. I wear these pants either early fall whitetail/bear or for spring turkey. This pants are first rate--quiet as a mouse, durable, functional, and extremely durable. First Lite's merino fabric does a fantastic job of insulating while breathing. The stretch fabric makes these pants very functional. I love that the pants come standard with the suspenders. Perfect athletic fit. I would definitely recommend.
I must say, these were the first real commitment I've made to hunting clothing. I got by with other stuff, cheaper stuff, noisier stuff. But with the fluctuating temps in early season hunts in southeastern Wyoming, I decided to roll the dice. These have become a daily-wear item for me. I wear them as often as I can without causing suspicion from my wife or coworkers. With a simple base layer underneath, these pants have allowed me to remain comfortable at a huge range of temps, have gotten me through thick timber, dense sage brush, and ranges of pretty warm temps to sitting in a snow storm. I'm fairly amazed. The pocket setup seems intuitive for me, and while others may be used to it, the suspenders were game changing for me. I lack a certain volume in the glutes, and with a belt and pack on, my pants were constantly getting pushed down. Now, with the suspenders, I don't even think about it. Throw my pack on, sling my rifle, and get to hiking. I absolutely love the Obsidian pant. By next season, I'll pick up another pair and keep them in near constant rotation. They are the pants I wear for hunts, and they're the pants I throw on when I'm lounging. I never thought I would write those words, but for a not necessarily cheap pair of pants, they're worth every dime for me.
These are easily the most comfortable pants I have ever worn. Will definately be buying more of the solid color for everyday use. Perfect fit.
I have to preface I'm a huge FL fan. Love their gear. However two items I bought from them I deeply regret. The Sawtooth and now the Obsidian pants. Reading through the reviews before I purchased them, I noticed every couple of positive reviews, a negative review would mention durability issues. I took these with a grain of salt considering how many positive reviews they have. Unfortunately after just 1 season with them, they have fallen apart. Carrying nothing more than keys, wallet, and my phone, the top two main pockets got obliterated. The stitching came completely undone and has rendered them useless. Next, just hunting PA public land, the bottom calf area got shredded up pretty bad from light underbrush just walking to my stand. I'm not hunting rugged hardcore country here. Very disappointing. Also, the crotch already looks as though a couple more hunts and that will have a hole in it soon. The saddest thing is because of how insanely quite these pants are, they made them fabulous for whitetail treestand hunting. I called FL hoping they can repair the pockets somehow, and was informed they don't even have a repair service! A certain competitor has one...
I'm 6'2" 240 lbs and usually wear a 36 x 34 jeans. The XL Tall are a bit long in the leg which I expected and is fine, the waist is almost a perfect fit and once layering is done underneath they will be fine. Awesome pants! Highly recommend!
