Fit perfectly super comfortable can't wait to give them a try!!!
When I first put this pant on out of the box I was slightly ill impressed. I loved the fit and feel of the original obsidians and thought maybe FL may have missed the mark on this one. I was beyond wrong. I just spent 5 days and 60+ miles in Montanas break country and these pants beat all expectations I had for them. The new fit, is amazing. Do not let the out of the box feel fool you. Yes they feel a little weird standing there with the slight bend in the knee, but I have come to love that aspect in the field. The new corrugate 4 way stretch on the front of the shin area up through the knee and around the cuff at the boot is just what the pant needed. It is durable, just as your typical corrugates were but now you dont have to run the fear of ruining the pant with a snag. The wool material is spread throughout the pant, some might think it is in weird locations, but it is actually precisely placed in the areas where your muscles are loosing a good deal of heat and sweating (calves, quads), while the anterior shin and butt are being reinforced for optimal protection. I own 2 pairs of original obsidians and my favorite pant is the corrugate guide of which I own 5-6 pairs. These new foundry obsidians are going to just about replace my corrugate guide pants in most situations. I absolutely loved how these pants performed.
SIZING: I am 5'8" 160 lbs. I usually wear a 29x34 wrangler jean. These pants I wear a 30x30 (similar to a small in the original sizing. Unfortunately there isn't a 30x32 which I would probably get if I could, but I would encourage most people to risk loosing length if they have to rather than sizing up in the waist. Keep the waist true to size to avoid any scrunching of the pant. Most of us wear boots over our ankles and this pant will generally meet the boot just fine even if they are a little short in a pair of shoes. If you really are worried about length, you can always add on the traverse gaiter which will give you the extra length you need and add extra protection to the cuff of the pant as well as prevent anything from rocks and ticks climbing inside the paint leg or getting inside the boot.
So I’m going to be honest…I wasn’t sure what to expect with these pants. With the merino, I was basically expecting to get out in the thick brush chasing turkeys and get a rip or two. I was wrong. Not only are these pants super light and comfortable, which was the part I expected to be great, but they’re also much tougher than I anticipated. I used these 8 days straight, with a ton of abuse, and they held up. Color me impressed. Very impressed.
The original l pant was great but the new foundry version is perfection!! These pants will work in such a wide range of temperatures that they might be the last pant you buy. I am using mine currently for spring turkey season in the Northeast but will then use them for all my summer hiking trips with the family. My only compliant is that I like them so much that I will probably buy more than one. Fusion for Northeast hunting, cipher for western, and dry earth for hiking!
Wow these pants are awesome! Ive been obsessed with the Obsidian Morino pant forever. I have 2 pairs so I wanted to try out the Foundry to see what more the pant can offer. I love the Material and how comfortable they are. It's very quiet and has many pockets also the fact that its fitted definitely works better for me. I haven't taken it out on the field yet but I am walking around my house aimlessly with them on because of how comfortable they are.
I’ve been wearing my pants for bear hunting. Feel great, fit good.
I ordered 34x32 thinking they would fit perfect in the waist and be long in the length alil but they don't offer a 34x30. Well the waist was way too big. And length was too long. Customer service helped me out fast and effective. Went with a 32x32 and they fit perfectly and would be still fine for a base layer underneath. The length is alil long but not that bad. They fit and feel great.
These are literally some of the most comfortable pants I’ve put on.
Pants fit very nicely. They are a touch big, but that was to be expected when I normally wear 33s. The length was perfect. The legs are more slender than the original obsidians. I really like this! They will fit nicely into knee boots and will not bunch around the knees! The front pockets are not as deep as the originals either! This is also nice! Now my front pocket items don’t overlap what is in my thigh pocket!! The material does seem to be a bit thinner and will be cooler for those early season hunts! I hunted with out the suspenders so no comment on them but I am really liking the extra about of belt loops! Great work!
I really love this pant. It is a bit thinner than I expected but it doesn't take away from anything when you layer appropriately. It's got all the right material in all the right places. Ive killed four turkeys in eighteen years without these pants, and just tagged out with three longbeards while wearing the pants, so you tell me. Seriously though, next level gear here. I'm putting a bit large on the waist as I'm 200lbs at 6' and wear a 34. So I've either lost some weight or they run a touch big. I like where they are at though because the fit everywhere else is perfect and I can wear a belt or when layering, they are just right.
