The catalyst shell on this jacket is a winner. This jacket is warm, Durable, and Quiet . It is more insulated than I expected having already bought the bibs before the jacket. For the saddle hunters out there, the pass through to the solitude bib hand muff is really going to be a plus. I know it is for me! Another great piece from First Lite.
I bought this jacket during the Black Friday sale and I couldn’t be happier. The quality is top notch, the fit is great, and it has many features that would appeal to anyone looking for a quality, cold weather jacket. It is insulated extremely well but also has enough room for you to layer underneath. The sleeves are a major bonus for me as the taper and snug fit around the wrist works great when getting a tight fit with gloves. They are also phenomenal when using a bow as the sleeves don’t get in the way of your draw. Other puffy jackets have a tendency to rub or get in the way of your draw which is no bueno when it’s the difference between a good shot or a bad one. The front hand pockets are also well insulated and although I haven’t gotten hunting time with the jacket yet, it seems like I might not even need to wear gloves. Time will tell though. There are plenty of pockets on the jacket and it is meant to pair with the catalyst bibs. There is a pass through on both sides of the jacket for your hands to go through which allows you to use the bib pockets to create a tight seal and keep body heat in. All in all it’s a great jacket and I’m looking forward to putting some years of use in it.
I bought this jacket/bib combo thinking it would be for next season. I got it just in time for the last day of rifle season here in Eastern NY. Of course it would be 5 degrees. Well needless to say that the Solitude, with layering, held up to the cold no problem. The pass through to the muff pocket was a great thought. The material was dead quiet even in the cold. the fit even with the layers underneath was perfect. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking to stay warm and stealthy in the tree stand.
I think the material is great! I frequently found the shell of the sanctuary would get damp and lead to a chill. Wet and damp snow at -10 really gets through. Not wetting out, just a dampness on long sits.
My only issue is I find the collars too high, or positioned wrong, at least for me. It presses into my string, just in front of my mouth at full draw. They are too thick and rigid to stay tucked out of the way.
Other then that, pretty close to perfect for Central to northern Ontario bow hunter.
First off I would like to say I was hesitant about the purchase. I couldn't find any local dealers with any FL gear but I decided to bite the bullet and give it a shot. My hesitation was not being able to check out the jacket before buying it but I am absolutely blown away. This jacket is so well made and the designers really thought this through. The attention to detail and how it will work with other pieces is shocking. It is exactly what I was hoping in an outer-shell for those cold windy hunts. I will absolutely continue adding more FL gear to my kit.
