I Expected Better

This is a good jacket. It’s comfortable, seems durable and waterproof. The reason I give it 3 stars is because of three things:

Fit – Very awkward. Many people say it’s supposed to run big so you can wear layers underneath. I don’t know what kind of layers they are wearing but at 6’1, 200lbs, average build, I bought a large and could have fit another person inside the jacket. Even with a few layers on underneath, I had way too much jacket to spare. I ended up exchanging for a medium which fit better, but the length of the torso is a short while the rest of the jacket fits pretty well.

Windproof – Not really. You’ll feel a breeze when temperatures get below 40. Compared to other jackets at this level, I was disappointed how much I was feeling the wind through this one.

Cost – With the awkward fitment and feeling like it’s not quite as protective from the elements as other high end jackets in this price range, I would probably go with something else if you’re willing to spend this much money.

My “go-to” jacket

For decades I struggled with staying dry during our wet NW hunting seasons where one can experience steady rain for days on end. Several jackets have failed me, each one claiming to be water proof. Usually they would fail halfway through the day and I’d be wet from then on. To combat this I would use a different jacket the next day while the other dried. I know part of the problem is that I hunt with a pack on. The leaks begin at the shoulders.
Cut to storm tight jacket and pants 2019: High Country buck hunt, regular deer season, and elk season saw a variety of weather. I experienced cold and warm days. On the cold I could easily layer up as the jacket has a great fit either way. When things warmed up in the afternoon or when I was burning mega calories, I would open the ultra long zippers under the arms to balance my temp. Lastly, and most important to me, were many days of rain and the jacket was perfect! From Rain protection to the size of the hood, which easily fits over my hat without being tight or obtrusive. During all those rainy days experienced, never did the water penetration! Perfect.
I love the fit, pocket depth, hood size, weight, relatively quiet, and I have not noticed any wear. Lastly, I cover 8 to 12 miles a day by foot and mountain bike into the back country. Never did I feel overheated.
I have found my last hunting jacket!

Not worth the hype

I bought this jacket mid summer for the upcoming hunting season. I have always been a believer in you get what you pay for. The jacket cost almost 500Cad$ so one would think that it should be comparible to other brands of the same price such as Arcteryx or Sitka both I have owned in the past. The issue I am having is the zipper has lost a tooth halfway up making it impossible to zip all the way, also the velcro on the flaps that cover the zipper are actually glued on not sewn which one would think for a jacket that is worth almost 500$ as should be (My walmart 30$ wind breakerthat I bought out necessity the velcro fasteners are sewn on) with this being said I really hope the situation is rectified with due haste as I leave in 2weeks over seas with out possibly proper jacket.

One very annoying feature

Love the jacket except the rough side of the velcro is on the side that touches your skin. My cheek was rubbed almost raw after wearing it for a few hours. Wish they would put the soft side on the inside not the other way around. Great jacket other than that.

Quality piece

Wear it now in winter with a couple layers under it and it’s perfect to block the wind and snow while ice fishing. Can’t wait to try it under pouring rain, feeling confident about it.
