I had noticed this was out of stock (in the colors I liked) and patiently waited for the re-stock notification. Once that arrived I was all over this. Not only i wear this as my final base layer but also wear it as a 1/4 zip for every day. Its very comfortable and very versatile.
Keeping wool as a base layer, the Furnace is an incredible next to skin cold weather layer. Flocked merino wool makes this great against skin for low output activities (tree stands, more spotting than stalking). Perfect base for cool/dry Colorado sits.
I'm 6', 205 lbs with an athletic build. I went with large size based on the comments. I wear large in all my other FL pieces. I planned on wearing the furnace as a near skin layer (on top of a merino t-shirt). Large was too big. Arm length, and especially the waist had too much material to effectively wear under my insulation layer. I exchanged for medium and now it's perfect for a base layer. So just heads up for those who want to wear this next to skin. Haven't had a chance to wear in the field yet, but like all FL gear, shirt construction is top notch.
I use my Furnace during all times of the year. In summer it works as an outer layer and in late season it's all I need under my puffy.
I really like First Lite Base Layer Tops and Bottoms. My one complaint is that all of the tops are way too long. The sleeves are a little long, but manageable. The main length, however, feels almost like a dress. If you're packing three or four tops, the extra weight adds up, especially with the Kiln and Furnace layers. I'm having mine altered, both for fit and weight savings. This is an added cost to an already expensive purchase. Otherwise, the tops are awesome. I love the feel of them, their odor control, their warmth, the high collars and I like having the ability to pull the zippers down for ventilation. I also love the Cipher camo pattern.
