I bought the Kiln Hoody and Kiln long jane bottoms. I was looking for base layers that I could wear all season long that would keep me comfortable. Being a small female, finding quality hunting gear is difficult but these fit me perfectly. They are so comfortable and soft. I wore them for one sit so far in WI, I didn’t feel sweaty after hiking in and they kept me warm as the night got cooler. Exceeded my expectations and cannot wait time use them all season long!
I’m 5’4 and 165lbs. Usually am a large in shirts and jackets but always tricky with big boobs and butt to fit around those sections. I ordered a large and it fit like a glove. My girlfriend tried it on who is 5’9 and 150lbs fit her like a glove too so two very different heights and sizes but still awesome fit. I wear it for work around the house working in the yard and of course in the woods. Absolutely love this will be buying it in every color is just an all around well made piece of work.
This top is so well built and the merino wool has an incredible feeling. I’ll wear this right from Sept 1 as my only layer, right until Dec 20th as a base.
This is my go-to top layer on a cooler, windy day and a base layer on those really cold morning hunts and hikes. I have a long torso and women’s fits are typically short waisted, this is not! Arm length is great and I almost always have the thumb holes on. Washes well and has held up on some pretty rough outings. Just hiked two back to back 14ers in it and it stayed on through 75 degrees and sunny down to 45 degrees and strong wind. Definitely an investment piece.
Fit exactly as the sizing outlined. I love that the arms are actually long enough to utilize the thumb holes and the torso is long enough as well. Super comfy
This merino base layer is soft, breathable and not scratchy at all. It works perfectly as a stand alone shirt in warmer temperatures and also holds warmth with another layer on top in cold windy weather. I was also very pleased with the length, it is long enough to stay tucked in my pants and that alone is enough reason for me to buy another one. This piece will always be in my pack. Thanks for a great product!
I purchased a small as that’s what my catalyst is, but the kyln fits a little more snug. Return and exchange was super easy and quick. Once my medium showed up, I haven’t stopped wearing it. It’s not to light, and not to heavy. The merino wool really keeps you warm and comfortable. Definitely will be my go to during our early season hunting. For now I’m stuck wearing it around the house during this quarantine time.
My husband has been wearing First Lite for the last year and I decided to try it for myself. I am not disappointed. My usual size of medium fit snug but comfortable though I chose a large to allow for wear as a base layer and a single layer around the house and on errands without being too snug. It is warm without making me sweat and is very soft. The hood fits well and actually covers my head and stays on unlike other hoods. The thumb holes are an added bonus. I highly recommend the Kiln Hoodie.
In the winter I live in wool base layers since I work outside in cold conditions. I've owned merino base layers from all the top brands and I have to say I am very impressed and happy with the First Lite merino base layers I've bought. The material is excellent and the design is great. I love the long sleeves and thumb loops. As for size, the M fits me well, not too tight. I'm very happy I decided to give First Lite a try and will be back for more!
Okay, I will admit when I received my Kiln hoody top and bottoms I was a little iffy on how warm it was actually going to keep me in the low N. Idaho temps. I WAS IMPRESSED! I absolutely love my kiln set. Over the last handful of hunts I have found myself hiking in my kiln top and wishing I could take off my catalyst pants and hike in my base layers alone. My last hunt was in 20 degree weather with a windchill in the mid-teens and the kiln base layer did great at regulating my body temp. On one hunt I made the mistake of pairing my Kiln top with an old poly-pro base layer... I was more than warm but that decision also prevented the merino wool from doing its job properly and I ended up sweaty and my next to skin layer (kiln hoody) was drenched in sweat. The base layers did far beyond what my expectations. I currently have the Women's Fuse Crew enroute to add to my layering system.
As far as the fit... the kiln fit perfect in all the right places. It is thin so you don't feel like Ralphie from A Christmas Story. Just as another review mentioned, the seems are in the right places so there isn't any uncomfortable scratching and the material is super soft. Best of all, caring for the garment is super easy and dries incredibly fast (hang-dry).
