At my size, there isn’t very much room for layering. I will probably have to invest in better layering options to minimize the amount I need. I got a little chilled on a blustery evening in the upper 20’s. Very good design and quality. I did not think the material for the butt was noisy. I sit on a foam pad or a Lone Wolf seat pad. I like the fact that legs aren’t bulky and can fit inside rubber boots. I feel that a large would be too big on me though.
After years of cheap gear I finally pulled the trigger on the Solitude system. Went back and forth between Sitka and this and am very pleased with my decision. Hunting in North Texas can range from 90 degrees to 20 degrees so I wanted a system I could use all year long. The bibs are great to wear early season with a lite top. You can unzip the legs for some air flow and then cover back up when the sun starts to set. Wore the bis and jacket for a 45 degree morning tree sit and didn't have an issue with wind or cold.
I am 5'11' and 185lbs and the large fits great and allows room for some layering.
Material is fantastic and quiet. Storage is great and jacket pass through to the bib hand warmer is the best feature ever.
I never write reviews but I have had cheap gear my entire life and finally pulled the trigger on this system and I am really happy I did. Below is my review and a few sizing recommendations for someone on the fence about the Solitude system.
I HATE being cold. I spent all summer trying to decide if I wanted to purchase the sanctuary kit or the Solitude Kit because I plan to use the same system for the rut and for WI gun deer season. I am extremely happy with the Solitude kit. It's late October in Wisconsin, we have snow on the ground and have already seen temps in the single digits. I was concerned that the Solitude system was not going to be warm enough and boy was I wrong. I have hunted about 12 times this year, all of those hunts that had temps dip into the 20's. I wore only a light base layer underneath this system and stayed completely comfortable for some very long days in the tree. I use the word "comfortable" as this system is impressive in it's ability to regulate body heat so you do not get too hot or too cold. In my opinion, anything above 50 degrees and this system will be too warm. It really shines in the 25-40 degree range.
I am 5'11' and 210lbs. I felt like I was in between a Large and Extra Large and I am very happy I went with the Extra Large for both the bib and the Jacket.
Jacket: At first I thought I might need to exchange the jacket for a Large but after a few draw string adjustments the fit was perfect. This jacket has side pockets that open big so you can access the hand pouch on the bib, I found that these zips work better for dumping heat on your way to the stand and keeping your hands in the jacket pockets work a lot better in cold weather. I really like the slim fit through the sleeves so it's not too bulky when you draw your bow. When you buy this make sure that you shoot your bow with ALL of your gear on, the collar on this jacket comes up high on the face which is nice for staying warm but it can hit your bow string and screw up your shot. I found that folding this down a little is a good way around this problem. Pockets in all the right places, loops for your range finder or grunt call, and the hood is very warm as well.
Bibs: Again, glad I went with the XL on the bibs. They fit pretty slim and if you are planning on layering under these bibs at all I would consider sizing up if you are like me and think you might be in-between sizes. These bibs are warm and comfortable and not bulky at all. It's really nice to be able to move freely when climbing in and out of the tree. The bibs also stay in place and do not ride up. I wish the hand pocket on the chest was a little bigger but like I mentioned before I prefer the jacket pockets for my hands in cold weather. I hunted right after a rain/snow storm and my stand seat was soaking wet. The waterproofing material on the butt of these was well thought out.
All of the material on this system is very quiet and so far has been very durable. There is no doubt in my mind that given the ability to stay on stand longer and be comfortable the entire time helped me tag out early this year.
Loves the bibs. They're warm and comfortable and work great with the jacket, but their best quality inn my opinion is they're cute to move. I may not being walking all day to get in a deer stand but it feel great to have some bibs that move with me.
Recently bought these insulated bibs and a kiln hoody. I knew the second I unpackaged them they were definitely high quality products. I was concerned with ordering on line due to fit concerns, but was happy to find they fit almost perfect (bib legs could be slightly longer, I'm 6' 6" 250lbs and ordered the XXL) but other than that bibs and hoody fit perfect. Would love to see an option for taller people (longer inseams). Thanks for a great product and I will be adding to my First Lite collection very soon.
I recently bought the Solitude Jacket and Bib kit in the Cipher pattern. I love the fit and quality of this gear. The bibs are really warm and are not overly heavy. The extra material on the butt will be nice when I sit in snow or wet terrain. I recently used the jacket and bibs while in Missouri, it was 40 degrees that morning with 10mph winds, I was only wearing a light weight base layer top and bottom underneath and I never felt a chill. This suit kept out all the wind and the material is super quiet. I am excited to use this kit chasing whitetail in South Dakota in a few weeks!
Bibs are warm and cut the wind down a lot. My favorite part is the built in muff. Over all the material is nice I was a little unsure about the material on the back of the legs. I assume it's to be waterproof when sitting on the ground. The fit is good, feels a tad bit tight for xl but regardless is comfortable with pants underneath
I will be hunting from a tree saddle this year and I can already tell I will enjoy these bibs when it gets colder. I absolutely love the full length zippers on both sides, and the built in pockets on the chest. I’m 5’7” and the medium fit me perfect with no bulk in the legs. I still have plenty of room for layering underneath as well.
Really great product. Love the handwarmer pocket and full leg zippers. Runs true to size, but just a tad small for my preference. I think these will fill the void in my cold weather closet. But will probably be overkill for most hunts in Louisiana/Mississippi.
Would give 5 stars if the butt material wasn’t so noisy. I understand the benefit of keeping your bottom dry from a wet stand/ATV seat, but I would much rather have the bibs be completely silent.
Finding the right system for the bitter cold late season is difficult but this season is different. My search is over and the Solitude system is exactly the answer. plenty of warmth, tons of pocket space and flexible enough to climb a stand, go through brush and maintain silence. The fabricate is quiet enough to hear your own breath but durable enough to withstand vigorous hunts.
