Have had this since 2018 and it's been my go to jacket for archery up until the temps drop and force me into warmer gear. I wear this into the 40's with a tee and a heavy base layer. The cut of the jacket makes movement and drawing a bow without interference easy. The fabric and zippers are very quiet. No construction-related issues...is holding up well after 3 seasons.
I use this for October elk hunts in WY. Couple this with a base layer and a Klamath hoodie, and you're ready to go!
I really like this jacket, Material is soft and warm. I do have just a couple minor issues. I am a bigger guy 2XL and it would be nice with a little longer tail. I have a long Torso. Also the material inside the pocket not sure how to fix but it gets caught in the zipper and a pain to unstick. If it rips stuff I put in the pocket falls on the ground. I have the same problem with my Uncomphagre 2.0 puffy. Love the gear I have several pieces.
Super soft, super silent!
This jacket has great coverage with neck and hood. You can seal everything up well around a ball cap. I appreciate that the hood is insulated as well.
The sleeves are definitely cut with bow hunting in mind. The cuff has the soft shell material on the back of the wrist and elastic on the palm side. The cuff tapers hard for string clearance, but the sleeve down to the wrist still allows layering. I wore it over a base layer, mid-layer, and a heavy Stormy Kromer wool sweater and it didn’t feel constricting.
This product does well in 30-40° and just as good in 10° weather! It even holds up surprisingly well in very steady rain. Highly recommend for all hunters, especially Archery, as it is not a bulky fit that gets in the way when you need precision the most. Quiet technology when on the move and plenty of storage for anything you need to have readily available. The zippers are quiet as well!
This is an awesome jacket for 90% of the hunting conditions I encounter. Used it this past season for early September elk hunting to late season muleys, and the only time I did not use it as my outer shell was during heavy rainstorms. The fit is a bit loose in the waist/bottom of the jacket, but this turned out to work well for layering when it was snowy and well below freezing. Fit is perfect everywhere else, I really like the length at the back and the tapered arms. Also quiet and durable when beating through brush.
I am a new hunter, and buying all my hunting clothing from scratch, I wanted to minimize my purchases while outfitting myself to hunt September through February, in the Midwest. I cannot yet speak to how my clothing choices will perform in the temperatures I will hunt, but I wanted to comment on how things fit me, and how layering affected that, as this was some of the information I was most seeking in other buyers reviews. I purchased the Kiln Hoodie, Obsidian Pants, Furnace Long Johns, Klamath Hoodie, Catalyst Jacket, and Catalyst Pants. My hope is this might entirely cover me for hunting in the 70's in September to the 20's/30's in January/February. I wanted the possibility to wear all of these layers to achieve sufficient insulation in the coldest end of my temperature range. I plan to still hunt, but don't see myself stand hunting anytime soon (so I expect to move a bit). I purchased all the aforementioned clothing in a size Medium (because this seemed best based on my measurements). I was pleasantly surprised to find that I could wear all of these layers (3 tops and 3 bottoms), all together, with plenty of range of motion and general comfort. They are snug but not tight (how I like my clothing). These clothing materials are stretchy. So if you are concerned about how much you can layer in a size Medium, I hope this helps you make a more informed choice in your sizing!
Amazing jacket! Paired with the kiln for a nice afternoon hunt. Temps around the 45 mark and got hit by a passing shower. I stood in the stand and just kept thinking about how this jacket was going to handle it! Steady rain for about 20 minutes. Worked like a champ! A little damp on the outer layer but didn’t soak through! It kept me warm and comfortable paired with the hoodie for the remainder of the hunt. Great product with unlimited potential especially when paired with other FL layers!
I purchased both the Catalyst jacket and pants. The fit is perfect. Water repelling excellent. Warmth and comfort awesome. After 25 years of serious whitetail deer hunting in western MA I can say, without any hesitation, this is the best camo I've worn. Our weather here can go from sun to rain to snow and back to sun shining again. They say if you don't like the weather, wait a minute. This First Lite camo can handle it all without flaw. I highly recommend First Lite to anyone looking for reliable clothing that will not only make every hunt comfortable, you'll also find yourself looking forward to the next hunt.
Ordered this jacket and all I can say is wow! Fit and function was perfect! Definitely a great, quality product! Can’t wait to continue putting through the paces
