When hunting out west, frost-covered mornings often turn into hot, sunny afternoons. In whitetail country, cold mornings can turn into cold sits without proper layering. Long johns are a no-brainer for both situations, but with temp swings or long distances to the stand, the hunter often finds himself overheating halfway through the morning's walk. Taking base layers off on the hill or before climbing the ladder involves taking off boots, dancing out of pants, shedding long johns and then replacing the pants and shoes. First Lite's new Zip Off Long Johns solves this problem by allowing the mountain or hardwoods hunter to shed base layers without consternation.

Our Furnace EXP 350 Merino-X fabric incorporates a brushed (fleeced) backside to our high loft, interlock knit to provide super-charged insulation without added weight. When combined with the silent, odor-free benefits of merino wool, and zip-off capability, the Furnace merino delivers unparalleled warmth and versatility on frigid days.

The Zip Off feature is also available in our Fuse Boot Top Long John and Kiln Long John.

I’ll never go back.

As always FL’s merino is top notch. That being said. I’ll never go back to not using zip off bottoms.

Furnace Zip Off Boot Top

Wore them daily to give them a test run while fishing on the Jon and heading out for spring bear hunting. Temp was fairly mild -3 to 9 Celsius. The zip off performed excellent. As long as the velcro tab that is the waist closure, and the fine zipper holds up I have no doubt that these will be one of my favorite new pieces for the fall hunting season in BC, Canada.

Best there is.

I wouldn’t go on a hunting trip without them. May be a little bit warm for hunting mobile but they’re a must for having as in insurance with you if temps drop during your trip.

Nice and warm

Easy on, easy off, easy to pack. These are my first pair of zip off thermals. They won’t be my last. I throw these in my pack and have an instant layer of warmth when needed. Packs smaller than most alternatives. I recommend them.

Warmer than anything else you’re considering

The day I bought these I decided to wear them around the house to see how comfortable/warm they were… That lasted for all of about 2min before I was uncomfortably hot. These are definitely the real deal. I’ve worn these under hip waders when fishing and stayed incredibly comfortable with temps around 15-20. It’s also great to easily/comfortably strip them- Once the outside temp passes 35 they are too warm.
